The police blotter is published to give readers an abridged look at criminal activity in their community and neighborhood. It is simply an illustration of what local law enforcement, funded by taxpayers, must deal with daily throughout the Española Valley.

Welfare checks galore

Sept. 5

  12:17 a.m. A caller said someone might be breaking into Hernandez Elementary. They heard loud gunshots and saw a vehicle in the parking lot.

  2:17 a.m. A Middle San Pedro Road caller reported a car with busted windows is abandoned in the middle of the road.

  3:21 a.m. A Cook’s Mobile Home Park caller said two men are walking around stealing catalytic converters.

  11:14 a.m. An Española Pathways Shelter caller reported her purse was missing when she woke up.

  11:40 a.m. A Private Driver 1613 in Medanales caller said her 31-year-old son is going through fentanyl withdrawals and is taking suboxone. He went next door to a neighbor’s house to get a pill and the caller is worried that he’s going to take the pill and die. 

  12:08 p.m. A Carr Lane caller wants five people dispersed. The caller said they are shooting up and have their drug paraphernalia out.

   12:18 p.m. An Ojo Caliente caller wants to file a report because he thinks someone has access to his Social Security number.

  2:49 p.m. An Española Pathways Shelter caller said a man who’s not allowed on the property is there and they want him removed.

  3:49 p.m. An Avenida Cañada caller said there’s a lot of “crazy stuff” in the area: needle containers and drug paraphernalia near mailboxes and people doing drugs in the hallway.

  4:06 p.m. A Hernandez caller reported she had to park her vehicle on the side of the road overnight and someone shot out the window.

  4:41 p.m. A man walked into the Española Police Department to report that he saw a lot of drug activity around his mom’s house. He didn’t want to give his mom’s address because he didn’t want it published.  

  5:04 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a woman passed out by the front doors at Allsups.

  5:07 p.m. A Jackrabbit Trail caller said a man is drunk and arguing with the caller and their mother.

  5:07 p.m. A Sesame Street caller wants to report a body part at his sister’s house. He’s not sure if it’s a human or animal. Police confirmed it was an animal’s backbone.

  5:49 p.m. An Española Hospital caller said a woman got in the caller’s face and verbally threatened her.

  6:13 p.m. A Paleta Bar caller reported a man is smoking something off a foil.

  6:42 p.m. A JGN Lane caller said a 34-year-old woman is unconscious after taking fentanyl.  

  6:50 p.m. A Walgreens caller requested a welfare check on a man standing near the stop sign, hugging the pole for balance.

  7:01 p.m. An Alcalde caller said her friend took her car keys.

  7:47 p.m. A Calle Chacoma Vista caller reported hearing a high-powered rifle being shot.

  8:38 p.m. An Ojo Caliente caller said there’s yelling, screaming and maybe fighting in the area.

  9:32 p.m. A Calle del Rio caller reported hearing three shots near the window.

  10:02 p.m. A Chamita caller said someone is bothering her. She said the man next door is at her window and door.

  11:11 p.m. A Velarde caller reported their home was broken into.

Sept. 6

  12:29 a.m. A Speedway caller said a man is making her uncomfortable because he’s in the parking lot, moving from pump to pump and hasn’t put gas in his vehicle.

  2:28 a.m. A Coyote caller requested a welfare check on someone by Coronado High School because they heard yelling and screaming. State Police said they didn’t have any units on duty and wouldn’t have any until later in the morning, so they’d place the call on “pending” status until then.

  3:17 a.m. A West Chamisa Street caller said a young man went to her door and asked for a blanket and when she went back to the door, he was gone. She thinks he’s still on the property because the dogs are barking.

  7:36 a.m. A PNM caller wants to file a report for stolen power tools.

  7:58 a.m. A Coronado High School caller reported two students were fighting.

  9:14 a.m. A La Joya Street caller said there are seven flower pots missing from the dental office and she wants to file a report.

  9:28 a.m. A person walked into the Española Police Department to file a report for a stolen garbage can.

  9:42 a.m. A County Road 1 in Hernandez caller reported his debit card was stolen and more than $1,000 was charged to it.

  10:09 a.m. A Blue Heron Brewing Company caller said someone stole their patio cover.

  10:53 am. An El Rito caller reported finding a 59-year-old man dead.

  11:02 a.m. A Taos Lane caller said she’s out of town and someone broke into her house.

  11:24 a.m. A South Paseo de Oñate caller reported a car was backing out and ran over her mother’s foot. She said her mother is lying on the ground but is conscious and breathing.

  12:02 p.m. A CYFD caller requested police assistance in investigating a case on Calle Redonda.

  12:08 p.m. A school resource officer reported a case of battery at the Española Middle School. The student was released to the parents and a report was forwarded to the juvenile probation officer.

  12:09 p.m. A JoJi’s caller wants several homeless people dispersed from behind the building because the delivery driver doesn’t want to stop.

  12:37 p.m. A Harley Lane caller said he’s trying to take the keys from his daughter because he thinks she’s high on something.

  1:12 p.m. A man walked into the Española Police Department to file a report for ID theft.

  1:32 p.m. A Lowe’s Home Improvement caller said a man is bothering people or money.

  2:04 p.m. A Santa Clara caller reported a 35-year-old woman is unconscious after she fell face-down on the floor. The dispatcher heard a man in the background say she took some pills. One dose of Narcan was administered. 

  2:17 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man passed out at the bus stop near Starbucks.

  2:47 p.m. A Los Niños Kindergarten caller said a five-year-old male student is not waking up. She said he was eating a snack before she noticed he was asleep.

  3:05 p.m. A Camino Arbolera caller reported his catalytic converter was stolen off his truck.

  3:56 p.m. A Valdez Park caller requested a welfare check on a man lying on the side of the road, not moving.

  3:41 p.m. A San Juan Elementary School caller said a 12-year-old girl is refusing to go with her legal guardian.

  3:43 p.m. A Star Lane caller reported a drunk man is at her house and she doesn’t want him there.

  4:13 p.m. A County Road 82 in Chimayó caller said a 32-year-old man has a fever and rib and hip pain, after he got beat up and fell off a truck yesterday.

  4:15 p.m. A Chama caller reported his catalytic converter was stolen.

  4:32 p.m. A CVS caller wants a man dispersed.

Sept. 7

  5:24 a.m. A County Road 129 in Hernandez caller reported her 74-year-old husband is not conscious or breathing. CPR is in progress.

  7:47 a.m. An El Rito caller reported her brother is trying to kill her.

  11:08 a.m. A person walked into the Española Police Department to file a report for identity theft.

  12:15 p.m. A Hair Depot caller reported a man threw something at their vehicle and damaged it.

  1:17 p.m. A Valdez Park caller said a man is bleeding from the head and he’s disoriented.

  2:53 p.m. A West Don Filigonio caller said they got back from out of town to discover their windows were shot out.

  3:03 p.m. An Income Support Division caller reported a man called the office and threatened to go there and said something “bad” was going to happen.

  3:13 p.m. A Pet Sense caller said there are several people outside, smoking by the back door.

  3:51 p.m. A McDonald’s caller reported they were cut off in the drive-thru and is concerned because the driver that cut them off is aggressive.

  5:13 p.m. An Española Fitness Studio caller requested a welfare check on a man who’s hunched over and talking to himself.

  6:10 p.m. A Speedway caller requested a welfare check on a man who’s passed out with a gun rack in the back of his vehicle.

  6:18 p.m. A Food King caller said a man outside has foil and pills.

  6:22 p.m. A Pet Sense caller reported two people are behind the building, screaming, yelling and cussing.

  7:10 p.m. A Las Lomas Apartments caller said a man is screaming by the blue bus stop.

  7:12 p.m. A caller reported about six people are fighting near Lotaburger.

  7:15 p.m. A Sandoval Street in Chama caller said someone broke into his house while he was at work and stole a pistol and rifle. 

  7:44 p.m. A County Road 56 in Chama caller reported his daughter’s ex-boyfriend is near his shed and won’t leave. He’s threatening to burn down the house.

  8:03 p.m. A Seventh Street in Chama caller said they heard about five shots fired.

  8:18 p.m. A Calle Cielito Lindo caller requested a welfare check on a man after another man  messaged him, telling him the man died and that he was too busy trying to fight the anti-christ. Police checked on the allegedly deceased man and found he was alive and OK.

  8:44 p.m. A Calle Don Pedro caller thinks someone is squatting in an empty house.

  9:09 p.m. A South Coronado Avenue caller said a drunk man is there and needs an ambulance.

  9:34 p.m. A Fairview Lane caller reported a man next door started harassing her as she was walking around her house. He was taking photos of her.

  10:13 p.m. A Speedway caller said a man is in the area, waving a gun.

Sept. 8

  12:15 a.m. A deputy doing courtesy rounds stopped to check on a house in Alcalde because the door was open. The owner said she left the door open to air out the house and that everything was OK.

  7:18 a.m. A person filed a report at the Española Police Department for identity theft.

  7:32 a.m. An El Llano Road caller reported windows on a building were broken.

  7:44 a.m. A South Prince Drive caller said her granddaughter’s father is there and they want him to leave.

  12:34 p.m. A Rio del Oso Street in Chama caller wants a person removed from her house.

  2:26 p.m. A man went to the Española Police Department to report that his card was stolen from an ATM.

  2:35 p.m. A County Road 1 in Hernandez caller said a man is at their house and he’s not supposed to be there.

  2:49 p.m. A Wells Fargo Bank caller reported a man was hanging out of a truck, waving a gun and arguing with someone in another vehicle.

  3:04 p.m. A Lowe’s Home Improvement caller said they kept her ID when she made a purchase and she thinks the action is fraudulent. She wants to speak with an officer.

  3:34 p.m. A Circle C caller reported a man is walking up to cars, asking people if they want to buy “blues.”

  4:41 p.m. An Avenida Cañada caller said a dog bit her as she was throwing out her trash.

  4:48 p.m. A caller reported a beat up car hit a guardrail near State Road 106 and State Road 76, then fled.

  5:03 p.m. A NM Gas Company caller said his co-worker is pushing him around.

  5:10 p.m. A North Paseo de Oñate caller requested a welfare check on a man by the RTD bus stop.

  5:23 p.m. A Wendy’s caller said a drunk tribal member is trying to cross the road.

  6:08 p.m. A Vista del Rio Apartments caller said a woman is breaking peoples’ fences.

  7 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a woman who fell asleep in a car at Wendy’s.

  7:07 p.m. An Allsups caller said a man who’s trespassed is on the property, sitting near the gas pumps.

  7:20 p.m. A Rincon de Estella caller reported two people are passed out in a car, in front of her house.

  8:27 p.m. A Walmart caller said a man with a gun was on the side of Walmart.

  8:43 p.m. A caller on Camino de Paz reported a woman with mental issues is threatening to shoot her father.

  8:49 p.m. An El Llano Road caller said someone is trying to get into the house.

  9:02 p.m. A caller reported a vehicle went into the ditch near Los Lujans Road and El Llano Road.

  9:48 p.m. A North Railroad Avenue caller reported, when she walked into her room this morning, her clothes were missing. She also said she went to bed last night and woke up with a strange man in her bed.

  11:05 p.m. A La Loma Lane caller reported damage to something. It’s not clear what was damaged.

Sept. 9

  12:55 a.m. A Ranchitos Park caller said two people in trucks are throwing the trash cans all over.

  1:31 a.m. A North Railroad Avenue caller reported a man is pushing some sort of cart down the road.

  3:39 a.m. A caller said someone in a car shot three times toward Hacienda Home Center, then left toward Sombrillo.

  8:05 a.m. A Terrace Avenue and NM Highway 17 in Chama caller reported a man jumped in front of her vehicle and lunged at it with a knife.

  8:25 a.m. A Del Norte Credit Union caller said two men walk up to the ATM after people leave and start pushing buttons.

  9:54 a.m. A caller requested an ambulance for a 27-year-old man with blisters on his feet, who’s near La Tiendita. 

  10:28 a.m. A Las Lomas Apartments caller said someone stole his catalytic converter.

  11:08 a.m. A Sun Loans caller said a man is at the window yelling, “He’s the devil of Española.” They are requesting the man be removed. Police discovered the man was rapping.

 11:48 a.m. A Fairview Lane caller reported two guys are behind Walgreens, asleep on the ground but unresponsive. One man was unable to stand and said he took fentanyl.

  12:01 p.m. A North Riverside Drive caller reported a stolen poly cart.

  12:39 p.m. A Speedway caller said a man told an employee that he was being held against his will.

  1:08 p.m. A County Road 5 in Española caller reported a truck side-swiped his vehicle and the driver then swung at the caller.

  2:06 p.m. A drunk man was reported to be near North Coronado Avenue and North Paseo de Oñate.

  3:09 p.m. A Speedway caller reported panhandlers are trying to direct people to a gold car.

  3:16 p.m. A Jemez View Street caller said a 60-year-old woman is unconscious and not breathing. They think she had a heart attack and cannot do CPR. The Office of the Medical Investigator was called.

  3:30 p.m. A State Road 531 in Tierra Amarilla caller reported she tried using her EBT card but all her benefits are used. She doesn’t know how that happened because she still has her card in her possession.

  4:06 p.m. An Abiquiú Lake caller requested help because they are stranded near the cliffs.

  4:21 p.m. A Rue 21 caller said about 10 people are doing drugs under a blanket.

  5:07 p.m. A caller reported a man is flipping off vehicles near the Italian Fusion restaurant and thinks a truck pulled over and the person inside beat up the man.

 5:26 p.m. A Walmart caller wants panhandlers dispersed.

  5:45 p.m. A Dairy Queen caller said they saw a driver take a drink of alcohol.

  5:39 a.m. A caller reported a man is on the side of the road in Medanales, trying to wave people down.

  10:02 a.m. A West Hill Street caller said there’s a down powerline in her yard.

  10:02 a.m. A Wells Fargo Bank caller reported a customer said there’s a man with a machete in the building.

  11:03 a.m. A North Railroad Avenue caller said the neighbor wants to speak with an officer because she is fearful and thinks people are out to get her.

  11:43 a.m. A Fairview Lane caller reported a car reversed into 

him and took off.

  12:41 p.m. A Little Caesar’s caller said a man in a truck was pointing a gun out of the vehicle.

  1:26 p.m. An officer was off with a drunk person in the parking lot of the Ohkay Casino.

  1:46 p.m. A Walgreens caller reported a man stole his truck and headed toward the high school.

  3:14 p.m. A Giant caller reported an irate customer came in and threatened the caller.

  5:24 p.m. A Guadalupe Credit Union caller reported a man is digging by the electrical box and might be trying to steal copper.

  1:20 a.m. A Lowe’s Home Improvement caller reported two men are riding skateboards around the parking lot and the caller wants them removed.

  1:53 a.m. A North Railroad Avenue caller said she filed a police report for rape a couple days ago and the accused rapist is walking around, looking through her window.

  6:52 a.m. An East Pueblo Street caller said a man has three tires in a shopping cart and thinks they might be stolen.

  8:18 a.m. A Speedway caller reported a man is asking for money and he’s threatened them in the past.

  9:40 a.m. A Pet Sense caller requested a welfare check on a woman lying behind the building.

  11:36 a.m. A Rio del Oso Street and Grove Avenue in Chama caller requested a welfare check on a man who’s been lying under a tree since 9 a.m.

  11:57 a.m. A Carr Lane caller said their house was broken into, the windows were broken and their carpets were ripped out.

  1:58 p.m. A Vista Pointe Court caller said his house was broken into last night and he found his items down the road, under a tree.

  5:25 p.m. A Star Lane caller said people are setting up tents in the backyard.

  6:15 p.m. A Valdez Park caller reported a man by the swingset is very drunk.

  6:23 p.m. An Abiquiú Lake caller said water is flooding off the mountain and onto the highway.

  7:18 p.m. An Ohkay Casino caller reported a 20-year-old is mixing drugs with his medication and is very pale.

  7:21 p.m. A County Road 1 in Hernandez caller said her son broke the door while she was at work and he is trying to lock her out of the house.
