The police blotter is published to give readers an abridged look at criminal activity in their community and neighborhood. It is simply an illustration of what local law enforcement, funded by taxpayers, must deal with daily throughout the Española Valley.

Run to the hills

April 24

12:59 a.m. Two women were fighting just inside the main entrance of the Ohkay Casino. They left before police arrived.

2:34 a.m. A Manzanita Drive in Chama caller requested an ambulance because a man is possibly bleeding from a scab and is banging his head on the wall and wants to hurt himself.

9:43 a.m. A Forest Road 145 in Cañones caller reported someone is dumping trash on the forest road.

10:07 a.m. A Dixon caller said a car hit a telephone pole and the people in the car ran into the hills.

10:12 a.m. An O’Reilly’s caller reported two women in a car were punching each other.

5:52 p.m. A Dixon caller said a man was shot in the leg at the Picuris Travel Center.

7:25 p.m. A Walmart caller reported there might be a drug deal happening at Walmart. She told the dispatcher she heard that one of the lowriders carries “stuff” under the steering wheel compartment.

9:40 p.m. A Speedway employee said a woman is physically fighting with an employee.

10:08 p.m. An Allsup’s caller reported there are a lot of people parked there and it’s sketchy.

11:21 p.m. A Private Drive 1614A in Medanales caller reported a child may have gotten into the melatonin and has very shallow breathing.

Friend of a friend

April 25

6:43 a.m. A Private Drive 1060 caller in Alcalde said her neighbor locked herself in the caller’s outhouse and doesn’t want to get off her property.

8:43 a.m. An Española Valley High School caller said someone shot the water tank behind the school.

3:04 p.m. A Fosters in Chama caller said a man broke the window in a hotel room, then left.

3:25 p.m. A Calle del Alamo caller reported a woman was at his house, threatening to cut his tires. 

4:14 p.m. A caller said a man is walking near Pizza Hut and he’s wanted in Texas on three manslaughter charges. The caller said he heard from a friend of a friend that the man is wanted.

5:27 p.m. A Valdez Park caller reported someone cut a fence into a dugout and was doing drugs.

6:24 p.m. A Walmart caller said a man with a weapon in his pocket tried to shoplift two TVs. He took his shirt off and ran into Valley Estates, then put his shirt back on and tried to get someone by Dairy Queen to give him a ride.

6:25 p.m. A Maple Street in Chama caller reported the window on their trailer was broken.

7:10 p.m. A Calle Duran caller said a woman nearby is yelling for a man to stop hitting her. The caller requested a welfare check on the woman.

7:33 p.m. A dispatcher from New Mexico State Police requested assistance in dealing with a man on Private Drive 1045 in Velarde, who’s yelling and screaming and holding a dog down, while wielding an ax.

7:36 p.m. A caller wanted to speak with the “higher ups” about officers harassing the people in a house on Calle Duran. 

7:40 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man walking on U.S. 84/285 in Hernandez, who looks disoriented.

8:01 p.m. A caller said someone is digging through the Goodwill box at Valley Superette.

9:14 p.m. A San Pedro Shell caller reported a vehicle was following him and when they passed him, they threw rocks at his car and may have dented it.

11:05 p.m. A Rio del Oso Street in Chama caller reported a man is at his house and he’s raging. He wants the man removed.

Tripping on acid

April 26

3:09 a.m. A Dixon caller said a 43-year-old man fell on the ground and couldn’t get up.

8:15 a.m. A deputy took a report on County Road 216 in Coyote because a man threatened the mayordomo, after the man talked to him about opening the ditch when he wasn’t supposed to. 

9:25 a.m. An Angel Strands caller reported a man appears to be having a medical episode but is intending to drive.

11:30 a.m. A County Road 1 in Hernandez caller said there’s a large fire in the bosque.

11:59 a.m. A Western Winds Motel caller said a couple got into the building somehow and are staying there.

1:06 p.m. A Tierra Amarilla caller reported someone tried to break into his camper.

2:43 p.m. A La Joya Street caller reported seeing two girls walking around the area and using drugs.

3:02 p.m. A Las Lomas Apartments caller said her son left and is on something. She said he’s making threats and screaming at everyone.

3:06 p.m. A Lucero Center caller reported a man stole $50 from his wallet that was in the shower area.

3:20 p.m. A Valdez Park caller said a woman is urinating and doing other stuff in the baseball field.

3:52 p.m. A Private Drive 1045 in Velarde caller reported her neighbor is not acting right. 

4:49 p.m. A Walgreens caller said she nearly hit two panhandlers who were crossing the street today. She’s concerned for their safety and wants to know if anything can be done.

4:08 p.m. A Cook’s Mobile Home Park caller reported homeless people are camping behind her trailer and they’re knocking over plants, cutting branches and leaving trash.

6:53 p.m. A police officer near Pet Sense caller reported a man is telling his mother that he’s tripping on acid and he’s now running by the Shoe Dept.

6:58 p.m. An officer took a report for a stolen catalytic converter near the Shoe Dept.

9:14 p.m. A County Road 328 in Tierra Amarilla caller reported vehicles are driving up the road and when they come back down, they peel out and destroy the road. He wants an officer to patrol the area.

Reckless 10-year-old

April 27

12:47 a.m. A McDonald’s caller reported a man is harassing everyone and keeps trying to walk up to the drive-thru window.

1:44 a.m. A New Mexico State Police officer was off with a wrong-way driver in a truck near Walgreens.

2:01 a.m. A Fairview Lane caller reported her friend was posting on Facebook, saying her boyfriend was beating her and asking for help.

9:36 a.m. A Santa Clara Apartments caller, who phoned earlier, said an officer never showed up and he is getting death threats. An officer said he tried to call the man several times.

11:48 a.m. A Santa Clara Apartments caller said a woman broke in and is squatting in one of the units.

2:28 p.m. An Abiquiú caller said a 16-year-old student at Cuba Independent Schools said she was raped.

2:41 p.m. A caller reported her son’s pickup truck was keyed at Mesa Vista High School.

2:52 p.m. A Calle Duran caller said as she was leaving, she saw someone break a window on a nearby house.

3:24 p.m. A student was referred to the school resource officer because they were in possession of drugs.

3:51 p.m. A County Road 1 in Hernandez caller reported a 10-year-old boy was driving recklessly on an ATV.

4:01 p.m. An Ohkay Casino caller said a regular customer stole her purse.

4:18 p.m. A Valdez Park caller said a man in an SUV is nodding off.

5:29 p.m. A Sesame Street in Ohkay Owingeh caller said a woman who was on hospice died.

7:45 p.m. A Vista del Rio Apartments caller requested courtesy rounds to clear out the hallways of homeless people because he daughter and infant grandson just moved in.

8:59 p.m. A County Road 41A in Alcalde reported someone is pointing a laser at passing vehicles.

10:40 p.m. A Middle San Pedro Road caller said her grandson is there and out of control.

Yelling and fighting

April 28

12:11 a.m. A Domino’s Pizza caller said a woman tried to run her and her boyfriend over.

1:04 a.m. A Thorton Lane caller reported finding her house torn up and her boyfriend bleeding from the arm, when she came home. He’s drunk and said he punched something because he thought she was cheating on him.

7:55 a.m. A Desert Sun Motors caller reported three catalytic converters were stolen.

10:28 a.m. A Vista del Rio Apartments caller said a utility trailer was stolen overnight.

1:09 p.m. A Murphy’s Express caller reported a 40-year-old man who’s very drunk is asking her to call an ambulance. She said he can’t even stand.

3:45 p.m. A Circle C caller requested a man be trespassed because he constantly bothers customers.

4:34 p.m. A BOLO was issued for a man in a truck because he pointed a rifle at someone after getting cut off.

5:57 p.m. A Lower San Pedro Road caller said he got to his shop and discovered tools were missing.

7:50 p.m. A Santa Clara Apartments caller said a woman is yelling and fighting with everyone.

Stolen honey bun

April 29

4:28 a.m. A Gallegos Scrap Metal caller reported children are running around the junkyard.

8:01 a.m. A Walmart caller said a woman is being belligerent and is trying to conceal merchandise.

9:10 a.m. An Allsups caller reported a man stole a honey bun.

9:11 a.m. A Paseo de Paulina caller said a man pushed her and tried to take her car.

9:28 a.m. A Denton Street caller reported seeing a man on her surveillance camera, who walked up to her carport and looked in.

9:29 a.m. An Old Hospital Road caller said someone was arrested last night and their vehicle was left on her property and she wants it removed.

12:51 p.m. A Private Drive 1445 in Chimayó caller reported a dog killed her chickens. She said they caught the dog and will try to take it to the animal shelter, but she still wants to speak with an officer.

1:15 p.m. A Private Drive 1034C in Velarde caller reported she wants to shoot her grandmother in the head, then shoot herself.

2 p.m. A Rock Christian Fellowship caller said a man in a wheelchair said he was physically assaulted.

2:48 p.m. A student at Española Valley High School was in possession of a THC pen.

3:56 p.m. A Dixon caller said her son is being mean to her and harassing her.

5:19 p.m. A Food King caller reported there’s a dog locked in a vehicle parked in a handicapped spot and the dog has no ventilation.

5:25 p.m. An officer was out with a man carrying the type of saw used to steal catalytic converters.

5:29 p.m. A South McCurdy Road and State Road 76 caller reported a man was driving erratically and a woman jumped out of the car.

6:29 p.m. A Velarde caller said a man broke into his house.

7:42 p.m. A Los Alamos Highway caller reported a drunk man went onto her property and when she asked him to leave, he said he’d punch her in the face and began yelling obscenities at her.

11:54 p.m. A Las Cumbres Community Services caller reported someone in a car is trying to ram another vehicle into the house.

April 30

3:29 a.m. A County Road 443 caller said there’s a truck in the river.

7:35 am. A La Joya Street caller said a man is at her door, asking for money.

9:22 a.m. An Ohkay Eagle Mart caller reported someone is throwing rocks and recording them.

9:45 a.m. A Medanales caller said a truck lost a load of trash.

9:54 a.m. A Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputy took a report for a stolen poly cart.

11:06 a.m. A Pacheco Lane caller reported her father was told he won a sweepstakes and had to make a payment with a gift card.

11:08 p.m. A caller said someone pulled a gun on her near the turnoff to Santa Cruz.

1:12 p.m. A County Road 88 in Chimayó caller requested a welfare check on a man passed out on the side of the road.

1:59 p.m. A Pinch Penny caller reported “the midget” just stole some copper from the storage behind the laundromat. He said he’s on foot, with a bag full of copper, headed toward Walmart.

2:47 p.m. A child on County Road 82 in Chimayó called 911 to say his uncle is passed out. The dispatcher could hear a man in the background saying they’re performing CPR. The 32-year-old man took fentanyl. The man was revived.

2:55 p.m. A Carr Lane caller reported people are walking up and down the road, yelling and fighting.

3:50 p.m. A McDonald’s caller said a man in an SUV is drinking a Budweiser.

3:55 p.m. A Dixon caller reported a woman is harassing him and throwing rocks.

4:33 p.m. A Goodwill caller said a woman is suicidal and homicidal and if she doesn’t get help, she’s going to hurt someone.

5:30 p.m. A Goodwill caller reported a “screwy-looking” woman was sticking her hands in a bush.

5:45 p.m. A Fairview Sonic caller said a man and woman are trying to sell drugstore products out of their backpacks.

5:46 p.m. A Wendy’s caller reported a man is shooting up near a dumpster.

6:44 p.m. A County Road 86 in Chimayó caller said a man was yelling at some children and pushing them around.

7:02 p.m. A Lower San Pedro Road caller reported a 29-year-old woman has been drinking and she needs to be checked out because she was unconscious.

7:13 p.m. A Tsigo Bugeh Road caller said a drunk man is lying on the floor and she wants him checked out.

7:53 p.m. A Bonecutter Lane caller reported her boyfriend bashed in her windshield.

8:58 p.m. An Allsups caller said a man is refusing to leave and is making threats.

10:49 p.m. A Santa Clara Apartments caller reported hearing about seven shots fired in the area.

10:52 p.m. A Cook’s Mobile Home Park caller said someone stole her flower pots.

10:31 p.m. An Ohkay Owingeh caller reported a bosque fire.

11:14 p.m. A Sandia Drive caller said he needs witness protection because he’s giving $500 cash to have a woman released from a vehicle. He wants to speak with an officer because he thinks he might be involved in a hostage situation.
