A man put a pack of gum on the counter at the Española Family Dollar Jan. 29 and when asked by the clerk if that was all he needed, the man demanded money.
Española Police Officer CP Lujan responded to the after-the-fact robbery at about 8 p.m. and spoke with the store’s manager Cesar Quezada.
Quezada told Lujan that he didn’t know who the robber was and relayed the pack of gum story concluding with the man saying, “Open up the register give me all the money and put it in the bag.”
Lujan reviewed the surveillance recording and observed a heavy set man, about 5-feet,10-inches tall, wearing a black jacket and gray hoodie approach the register with the gum.
“It appears as if the male then shows the gun to Mr. Quezada and gets the currency and leaves the store,” Lujan wrote in his report.
Quezada described the gun as a revolver.
Between the hoodie and the face mask, Lujan wrote that he could not make out any of the robber’s facial features.
The robber took about $400. It’s not stated in the report what happened to the pack of gum.
