An Albuquerque man fell asleep about 7 a.m., Jan. 30 as he was traveling on Riverside Drive and crashed into a building.

According to a police report by Española Police Officer Ladislas Szabo, Anthony Dominguez, 31, of Albuquerque, was heading north on the 1100 block of North Riverside Drive, with passenger Christopher Ramirez, 33, of Albuquerque. The men agreed on the sequence of events and told Szabo that Dominguez fell asleep and lost control of his vehicle, described as a Scion.

The car ran over a curb and struck the concrete divider separating two private properties. The divider was destroyed and the front bumper of the car was ripped off. Both air bags in the car deployed.

“The impact was powerful enough to render the vehicle inoperable and to injure both occupants,” Szabo wrote in the report.

JV Towing was called to tow the vehicle and Dominguez was transported to the Española Hospital for chest pain. Ramirez, despite having a noticeable injury to his leg, refused medical care.
