From Press Release
Law enforcement in Castle Rock, Colo. arrested a woman Tuesday for the Dec. 18 shooting death of Saul Martinez, 30, in Española, according to a New Mexico State Police press release.
Castle Rock (Colo.) Police Department in conjunction with the Douglas County (Colo.) Regional SWAT located Marina Salcido, 28, in a Castle Rock home. The press release states Salcido was taken into custody without incident and was booked into the local detention center in Colorado where she will await extradition to New Mexico.
Española Police Department Det. Byron Abeyta initially investigated the murder. Martinez was found inside his Mercedes behind Holy Cross Church, shot through the chest.
State Police reported that during the initial investigation, Española detectives learned Martinez was shot in his vehicle at 145 El Llano Road. After the shooting Martinez was transported in his vehicle and left behind Holy Cross Church.
The Department and the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office requested New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau take over this homicide investigation, the press release states.
State Police agents learned Salcido, of Espanola, was with Martinez at her residence on El Llano Road minutes before his death. Salcido was seen leaving the driveway of her residence in a black vehicle after reports of a single gunshot.
The black vehicle in which Salcido left the El Llano home matched the description of the black Mercedes in which Martinez was found dead. A short time later, Salcido was seen out of breath, walking back to her residence, the press release states.
An arrest warrant was issued for Salcido Tuesday through the First Judicial District Court for first degree murder and tampering with evidence (three counts).
The warrant was not on the Court’s website at the time this story was posted.
