Stephen Meek, 68, of Tierra Amarilla, pleaded guilty Oct. 28 in District Court to three charges related to the June 2019 raping of a 7-year-old girl, only identified as A.P. in court documents.

The 2019 indictment states Meek, a bus driver for the Chama Valley School District, was originally indicted for enticement of a child, kidnapping, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and criminal sexual penetration of a minor under the age of 13. He pleaded to lesser charges.

The agreement states the enticement charge was thrown out and Meek pleaded guilty to the contributing to the delinquency of a child charge and the lesser charges of false imprisonment, instead of kidnapping, and criminal sexual contact of a minor under 13 years of age instead of criminal sexual penetration.

Meek faced a maximum of 56 years in prison. District Court Judge Jason Lidyard sentenced Meek to 18 years in prison, after which time he will be on parole for five to 20 years. Meek must register as a sex offender and provide a sample of his DNA to be kept on file.
