Man crashes in Chimayó field

Deputies walk toward a car that crashed into a field, June 5, off County Road 87 in Chimayó. The driver managed to drive over the embankment so that his car landed, and rolled, into the field. Officers performed field sobriety tests on him, but found that he was not intoxicated.

    The police blotter is published to give readers an abridged look at criminal activity in their community and neighborhood. It is simply an illustration of what local law enforcement, funded by taxpayers, must deal with daily throughout the Española Valley.

June 15

    8:14 a.m. A Calle de Pajarito caller said someone broke into her home the previous night and stole electronics.

    10:50 a.m. A County Road 1 in Hernandez caller said her child’s father burglarized her house and spray-painted words all over her house and car.

    1:01 p.m. A San Pedro Sonic caller said three people were shooting up in a car with a child in the back seat.

    1:27 p.m. A Santa Clara Peak Road caller said people from the summer solstice event broke the windows to his truck and were passing cars at high speeds.

    2:50 p.m. A Walgreens caller said a drunk man in the parking lot urinated in his pants and had several children in the car.

    5:13 p.m. A Calle Vigil caller said a woman broke into his house with a knife and he was holding her down.


If at first you don’t succeed, use a rock

June 16

    1:44 p.m. A Quinstar Satellite caller said a man threatened employees, then left.

    3:17 p.m. A Taos Lane caller said a man driving a Buick Century hit a pole on Sandy Lane, hit a wall, and almost hit a car leaving the area.

    6:42 p.m. A Blake’s Lotaburger caller said a man wearing a top hat broke a bottle of beer and they wanted him off the premises.

    7:15 p.m. A Cedar Street caller said a drunk woman assaulted him and his children. The dispatcher heard the two fighting and heard the caller say he had a two-by-four and he was swinging it at the woman.

    8:02 p.m. A Walgreens caller said two men and a woman were drunk and asking people to buy them alcohol.

    10:07 p.m. A Camino Cielo Grande caller said a man tried to kick his door down, then broke a window with a rock.

June 17

    8:18 a.m. A Private Drive in Hernandez caller said someone stole her Nissan Altima when her son was driving the car.

    10:40 a.m. A Simmons Lane caller said someone broke into her aunt’s house the previous night and stole her aunt’s purse.

    10:53 a.m. A Calle Milagro caller said her son was outside in the yard, making a scene and she wanted him removed.

    2:33 p.m. A Lowe’s SuperSave caller said someone stole his Dodge truck while he was in the store.

    6:48 p.m. A Calle Olivas caller said there was a rattlesnake under her daughter’s bed.

    8:24 p.m. A Highway 595 in Lindrith caller said her neighbor had been shooting his cannon all afternoon. He called back two-and-a-half hours later and said the neighbor was still shooting the cannon.

June 18

    11:19 a.m. A County Road 58 in El Guique caller said his “meth head neighbor” took his computer from his house.

    11:21 a.m. A Wal-Mart caller said a man dressed in a black T-shirt, hair net and black jogging pants was looking into vehicles in the parking lot.

    12:38 p.m. A Private Drive in Ohkay Owingeh caller said her brother caught two men breaking into his car and pulled a knife on them.

    1:50 p.m. A Private Drive in Alcalde caller said a man and a woman in a blue van with tinted windows was selling drugs.

    4:52 p.m. A County Road 59 in Velarde caller said two women were riding an ATV with a toddler, who wasn’t wearing a helmet and a man was driving another ATV with a toddler who wasn’t wearing a helmet.

    10:01 p.m. A Domino’s Pizza caller said a man used a counterfeit $100 bill and ran off with the food, to a Motel 6.

    10:47 p.m. A Sandy Lane caller said her mother stole her wallet and when she asked for it back, her mother punched her in the eye.


Midnight harassment

June 19

    12:11 a.m. A County Road 93 in Chimayó caller said her neighbor keeps going to her yard around midnight every night and harasses her and her family.

    12:32 a.m. A County Road 44 in Alcalde caller said he just got home and realized someone stole his Top Hat car hauler. He called back eight minutes later and said a relative took it and forgot to tell him.

    1:53 a.m. An Ohkay Casino caller said a man had a lot of drugs in his possession and they had him in the security office.

    5:32 a.m. An Allsup’s caller said an ex-employee went in and took all the money from the safe. He told employees that the manager told him to get the money and leave. When the caller phoned the manager, he said the ex-employee was not supposed to be there.

    6:22 a.m. A Calle Verde caller said he found two hand guns missing and papers from his car scattered all over the driveway of his house.

    10:13 a.m. A Motel 6 caller said a man and a woman were passing out counterfeit money.

What do you mean, there’s no pizza?

June 20

    5:52 a.m. A County Road 40 in Alcalde caller said she caught someone stealing gas from her gas tank.

    9:26 a.m. A U.S. Highway 94 in Hernandez caller said he saw an 18-wheeler swerving and it looked like the driver was falling asleep.

    11:53 a.m. A Walgreens caller said there were five or six aggressive panhandlers in front of the store.

    12:26 p.m. A West Jonathan Drive caller said she saw a man in a red van take her pills.

    12:54 p.m. A Calle Sierra Vista caller said his neighbors were yelling and fighting in the cul de sac.

    4:53 p.m. A County Road 57 in Velarde caller said he was being chased by a white van and a blue Mazda.

    6:26 p.m. An Arch Lane caller said a man in a gray truck punched him, then took off. The man accused the caller of looking at his girlfriend’s breasts for the last three days.

    9:11 p.m. A Paseo Melendez caller said his Chevy truck was stolen, after he left the keys in it. When an officer arrived, he found the man extremely drunk. The man said when he looked outside, he found the truck, and his keys were inside the entire time.

    10:17 p.m. A Little Caesar’s caller said a man threatened to shoot him, although he didn’t have a gun. The man was upset that the store was closing and didn’t have any pizzas.

It’s just the wind

June 21

    10:07 a.m. A woman walked into the Española Police Department and said she wanted to report her employee for possible meth use.

    12:06 p.m. A Family Learning Center caller said there was a litter of kittens under the shed and she was afraid they were going to attack the students.

    2:46 p.m. A Santa Claran Casino Hotel caller said her boyfriend stole her pain pills.

    5:35 p.m. A Rio Arriba County Detention Center caller said they had two men with the same name and released the wrong one. He was returned to custody by New Mexico State Police an hour-and-a-half later.

    7:32 p.m. An Allsup’s caller said a woman was eating items off the shelf and acted disorderly when she was asked to leave.

    9:38 p.m. A Dollar General in Hernandez caller said he was robbed at gunpoint with a double-barrel shotgun.

    10:19 p.m. A North Coronado Avenue caller said there were people in the trees making noise. An officer didn’t find anyone in the trees and said it could have been the wind.
