Ranchitos crash

Española City Police and firefighters responded at 5 p.m., Aug. 27 to a crash with injuries at the intersection of North Riverside Drive and El Llano Road. This truck appeared to have been struck by a small sedan but it was not clear who was at fault and no report was available at presstime.

    The police blotter is published to give readers an abridged look at criminal activity in their community and neighborhood. It is simply an illustration of what local law enforcement, funded by taxpayers, must deal with daily throughout the Española Valley.

Aug. 15

    12:25 a.m. A Santa Claran Hotel Casino caller reported a man in a car was unconscious and not breathing. One dose of Narcan was administered and he responded. A second dose was administered and he was breathing and conscious.

    1:24 a.m. A Fosters in Chama caller said a man fell and hit his head pretty hard.

    3:30 a.m. A San Pedro Shell caller wants to report there’s a pickup truck in the parking lot with all the windows bashed in. It was determined the truck’s owner was off his meds and smashed the windows.

    7:02 a.m. A man was arrested after an Española Police officer made a traffic stop on Calle del Rio.

    8:42 a.m. An Alcalde caller reported a couple of dogs attacked his sheep, so he shot one of them, but the other dog fled.

    10:20 a.m. A Calle Redonda caller requested a welfare check on two couples passed out in a car on the road.

    10:24 a.m. A Tierra Amarilla caller said a truck went off the road, through the guardrail and into the river.

    12:22 p.m. A Calle Serrano caller reported getting threatening text messages from a woman, threatening to kill her and her children.

    12:36 p.m. A Mariscos la Playa caller said a man in a truck is following him and yelling at him in Spanish, claiming he knows the woman in his truck, but he doesn’t have a passenger. He said the man is blocking the exit and won’t let him leave.

    3:19 p.m. A man called 911 to report that he got an SOS text from his brother who is en route from Dallas to Chama.

    4:51 p.m. A Bode’s General Store caller reported a man stripped naked in front of her 12-year-old daughter during a weekend rafting trip and she wants to speak with a deputy.

    4:55 p.m. A Forest Road 306 caller said a Forest Service worker got lost and doesn’t have any food or water.

    5:45 p.m. An Ojo Caliente caller said her house was getting flooded and the water took her propane tank.

    6:23 p.m. A Velarde caller said a 60-year-old man fell down and is bleeding from his ear.

    7:06 p.m. A Lower San Pedro Road caller said a 20-year-old man was shot by his neighbor, who then took off in a truck.

    9:06 p.m. A Jackrabbit Trail in Ohkay Owingeh caller reported a 30-year-old man is unconscious. Two doses of Narcan were administered but he wasn't coming out of it.

    9:53 p.m. A Cañada Court caller said a man is lying on the ground and possibly overdosing. Narcan was administered.

    4:15 a.m. A Santa Clara Apartments caller reported a woman is overdosing in the parking lot and is surrounded by people telling her to breathe.

 6:33 a.m. A County Road 41 in Velarde caller said he’s feeling dizzy and fell yesterday. He said there are drones around that are bothering him and causing him issues.

    7:56 a.m. A Camino de Roberto caller said a neighbor owes him money and she’s having people beat him up and he’s handicapped.

    9:08 a.m. A Calle Serrano caller said she was scammed online when trying to buy a car. She filled out the info and was asked to Venmo more money.

    11:42 a.m. A Park Street in Española caller said his dog was shot.

    12:07 p.m. A Big 5 caller reported a man in a car is passed out.

    12:39 p.m. A Calle Cordelia caller reported a man is yelling at his mother and swinging a shovel at her.

    12:41 p.m. A Velarde caller said a man assaulted her husband and he’s confused.

    3:56 p.m. Someone walked into the Rio Arriba Sheriff’s Office to report a person in a car is slumped over on Industrial Park Road.

    8:21 p.m. A La Loma Place in Chama caller reported a man that was kicked out came back and they want to press charges.

    8:33 p.m. A KFC caller reported two cars are facing the building and the people near them are “smoking that (expletive) again.”

    9:02 p.m. A North Railroad Avenue caller said a car wrecked into a house.

    9:37 p.m. A North Monterey Lane caller reported a fight at a homeless camp at the end of the road.

    7:21 a.m. An Española Elementary caller said she found a wagon full of items behind the building, including Chromebooks and a projector.

    8:35 a.m. An Española Valley High School caller reported a student bullied her granddaughter and took her phone away, then started punching her.

    10:36 a.m. A North Riverside Drive and Valley Drive caller reported a 46-year-old man stepped in a tool box and fell, as he was working on the lights.

    10:58 a.m. An O’Riley’s caller said an employee is doing fraudulent refunds for more than $1,500.

 11:23 a.m. A Milagro Village Mobile Home Park caller reported a neighbor’s dog went to his yard and killed his dog.

    12:19 p.m. An East Don Filigonio caller said her neighbor is lying inside his car and she doesn’t know if he’s breathing.

 4:02 p.m. An Ohkay Casino caller reported a 25-year-old woman was poked by a needle and is having a panic attack.

    5:04 p.m. A Walmart caller said her dad is refusing to get out of her car.

    5:12 p.m. A Shoe Dept. caller reported a man is on the ground and she thinks he is overdosing. Police determined he was sleeping.

    6:15 p.m. A Valdez Park caller said people in a white car and black van are getting high and they need to leave because cheerleading practice is starting soon.

    7:02 p.m. A Rutheron caller requested a welfare check on a man lying on the side of the road.

    7:26 p.m. A Chimayó caller said a car crashed into a house, then the driver tried to hide the car, before taking off.

    8:21 p.m. A Santa Clara caller reported a dog bit her 25-year-old daughter in the armpit.

    12:15 a.m. A Santa Clara Apartments caller said people that are staying with her took her bank card and there’s no money in the account.

    7:47 a.m. An Eagle Village caller reported a tenant shot at the A/C unit with a pellet gun.

    9:49 a.m. An Española Valley High School caller said someone broke into the school.

    11:56 a.m. A Tierra Amarilla caller said someone got a photo of her brother and Photoshopped a penis on it and is calling her parents, demanding money and threatening to send the photo out.

    12:12 p.m. A La Loma Place in Chama caller reported the death of a 50-year-old woman.

    12:25 p.m. A U.S. Highway 64/84 caller said she’s parked on the side of the road and her son is saying there’s a bomb in the car.

    1:08 p.m. An Española Elementary caller reported a parent got into a collision with a bus.

    1:15 p.m. A Rio Arriba Sheriff’s Deputy requested an ambulance at the Española Magistrate Court because a woman has shallow breathing and is passed out in a car.

    1:21 p.m. An Española Middle School caller said two students got into a fight and now the mother of one of the students is there, harassing the other girl.

    1:57 p.m. An Española Middle School caller reported a fight.

    2:12 p.m. An Española Elementary caller said a teacher assaulted a student and the mother wants to file a report.

    3:42 p.m. An Ohkay Laundromat caller requested a welfare check on a child inside a van with the windows rolled up.

  8:03 a.m. A Center Market caller said he can’t get his brother out of the car.

  8:56 a.m. A North Railroad Avenue caller reported a man is sleeping under the portal of Angelina’s restaurant.    9:32 p.m. An Alcalde caller said they were riding bikes at Prairie Dog and saw people camping and living there with four children.

    8:29 a.m. A Century Bank employee said a utility truck damaged their drive-thru.

    8:32 a.m. A County Road 111 in La Mesilla caller reported his 18-year-old brother is acting up and breaking things.

    8:55 a.m. A Dixon caller said he got a call saying his Social Security number is being used in a money laundering operation and $2,000 was taken from his account after his phone was hacked.

    9:08 a.m. A woman called dispatch to say someone at Dan’s Liquor’s in Chimayó called to tell her that her son was there, possibly on meth and unconscious.

    10:17 a.m. A Private Drive 1537 in Hernandez caller said she was battered by the owner of Sugar’s.

    11:27 a.m. A Private Drive 1333 in Española caller reported he caught some men crossing his yard. Another caller said a vehicle tore down the fence and was stuck in their yard.

    12:22 p.m. A Middle San Pedro Road caller reported her brother and father are arguing. One man was arrested and taken to the Española Detention Center.

    2:25 p.m. A McCurdy School caller said they found a white, powdery substance on a student.

    2:29 p.m. A White Swan Road in Ohkay Owingeh caller reported his friend is unconscious and has shallow breathing.

    3:27 p.m. A Family Dollar in Española caller reported a man who was shoplifting pulled a knife on employees.

    3:58 p.m. A Darrin’s Place caller said a patient tried to use a counterfeit bill in the commissary.

    4:54 p.m. A Santa Cruz Country Store caller reported his wife was making a purchase when an employee walked behind her, grabbed her hips and rubbed his penis against her.

    6:11 p.m. A Valdez Park caller said two men are physically fighting in front of the park.

    7:29 p.m. An Ohkay Express caller requested a welfare check on a man, who looks passed out in a car. Police requested an ambulance because the man could not stay awake.

    8:47 p.m. A Vista del Rio Apartments caller said people are in the parking lot shooting at each other and arguing.

Aug. 20

    2:39 a.m. A North Riverside Drive caller said a man who lives at the homeless shelter stole motion detectors and lights from his door. He said he’s stolen lights from his house before.  

    5:25 a.m. A Speedway in Chama caller said they have a man outside that has three bombs in his car and he’s waiting for a bomb squad.

    9:23 a.m. A Wells Fargo Bank caller said a man in an SUV was assaulting a woman, who took off running toward Burger King.

    11:29 a.m. A Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park Road caller requested a welfare check on a man across from the fire station who has not moved. EMS made contact with him.

    11:49 a.m. An O’Reilly’s caller said a North Central Solid Waste truck has the back door open and is dropping trash.

    12:33 p.m. A Taos caller requested a welfare check on her mother because her phone sent an SOS message to the caller’s brother and they cannot reach her.

    3:20 p.m. A Vista del Rio Apartments caller said a woman is overdosing. Four doses of Narcan were administered.

    4:33 p.m. An El Guique Road in Ohkay Owingeh caller requested a welfare check on his mother because she’s not answering the phone. Police determined she was OK, she wasn’t answering because there are issues between her and her son.

    6:54 p.m. A Family Dollar in Española caller requested a welfare check on his employee, who’s outside in her car, passed out.

    8:51 p.m. An Alcalde caller said he and his girlfriend were arguing and she hit him on the head with a shovel and she hit the dog, too.

    11:56 p.m. A Cook’s Mobile Home Park caller said there’s a lot of screaming and yelling coming from a trailer. Police determined the people there had the TV on really loud.

Bad auntie

Aug. 21

    12:30 a.m. A Cook’s Mobile Home Park caller reported a man and woman in a truck are arguing and it looks like they’re physically fighting.

    2:38 a.m. A Paseo de Paulina caller said more than 10 people are in the road, fighting with sticks and there’s a lot of yelling and arguing. Police weren’t able to find anyone there.

    12:58 a.m. New Mexico State Police asked city police if they’d respond to a call regarding a fight on El Llano Road and Vista de Corral because their units are on another call.

    1:30 a.m. A man was found on Camino Carlos and taken to the hospital. The vehicle he was in was full of blood and a hate crime was suspected.

    11 a.m. A Speedway caller reported a former employee was caught stealing beer.

    12:09 p.m. A Valdez Park caller requested a welfare check on a man lying on the ground by the newer play area.

    5:42 p.m. A Calle Valdez caller requested a welfare check on his sister because she was seeing things in the house and was taking a painting down because there was writing behind it.

    7:55 p.m. A North McCurdy Road caller requested a welfare check on her autistic son because he called his brother and said a woman dragged him from a car and hit him.

    8:29 p.m. A Cañada Court caller said there are several cars parked across the street and she’s watching the people inside them get high.

    8:44 p.m. A Walmart caller reported she gave her money to her auntie to save, but now the auntie won’t give it back

    11:28 p.m. A Lumberton caller said he hit an elk with his Audi and needs a wrecker.

    11:43 p.m. An Ohkay Casino caller reported a man is passed out in a car on the side of the building. Police determined he was just taking a nap.
