Moving Arts Founder a '2019 CNN Hero'

Roger Montoya was honored last week as a 2019 CNN Hero for his work with visual and performing arts nonprofit Moving Arts Española. Video profiles and an interview can be found at cnn.com/specials/cnn-heroes. Montoya said a third video featuring former Moving Arts student Than Povi Martinez, now studying ballet in Chicago, will release this Friday as part of the series on Montoya and Moving Arts. This year’s “Top 10” Heroes will be announced this fall. Each of the top 10 will receive $10,000 and a “Hero of the Year,” announced on a televised program after a public online vote, will receive another $100,000.

Montoya said he hopes the coverage can help Moving Arts to reach more young people in the Española Valley. “The notion of a hero is nice,” he said. “It’s not so important to be a hero to me. It’s more important that this region lift and rise.”
