The police blotter is published to give readers an abridged look at criminal activity in their community and neighborhood. It is simply an illustration of what local law enforcement, funded by taxpayers, must deal with daily throughout the Española Valley.
Española Police officers, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies or State Police responded to the following calls:
Stolen Cash Register
12:13 a.m. A Murphy Express caller reported seeing a man break into the business with a duffel bag. Officers found an open door but nothing appeared damaged or stolen.
6:50 a.m. An Española caller reported her boyfriend was throwing things at her.
8:10 a.m. A Velarde caller reported her ex-boyfriend and a friend stole her dog. She later told an officer the dog appeared back at her home.
8:55 a.m. A Hernandez caller reported she caught a loose dog that killed one of her chickens and tied it up for animal control to pick up. She later told a deputy she wanted to keep the dog now and if the owner comes forward they will return it.
9:42 a.m. A Murphy Express caller reported someone broke into the store the night before and stole money from the register.
10:30 a.m. A State Road 76 caller reported her daughter was at her mother’s house high on Xanax and harassing her mother. Officers arrested the daughter on an outstanding warrant.
11:22 a.m. A Camino Santa Cruz caller reported someone threw eggs at her yard and driveway.
11:38 a.m. A Walgreens caller reported a man stole the cash register till and walked out.
1:51 p.m. An Española woman reported to her caregiver service that her caregiver was abusing her. Officers separated the woman and her caregiver and called Adult Protective Services.
3:06 p.m. A Calle Rivera caller reported he lent a battery charger to his niece’s boyfriend and he had not given it back.
3:46 p.m. A North Riverside Drive caller reported four men were fighting by an orange stand.
7:13 p.m. A Walmart caller reported a man walking around the parking lot with a key set trying to open several cars. The man left in a silver Honda Accord.
7:25 p.m. A Sonic Drive-In caller reported a man was holding a large machete and appeared nervous.
9:55 p.m. A North Riverside Drive Giant caller reported about 10 drunk people fighting in front of the gas station.
11:18 p.m. A Calle de las Yuccas caller reported her teenage nephew was attacked by three men at the Ranchitos Park.
10:48 a.m. A Camino Cielo Grande caller reported his mother was going crazy and wanted to break everything, but hung up when a dispatcher asked for his name.
12:49 p.m. A woman walked into the Sheriff’s Office to file a report about things that were posted about her on Facebook.
1:31 p.m. A CVS pharmacy caller reported a customer forged a prescription about a month ago but they just noticed.
1:40 p.m. An Ohkay Owingeh caller reported her ex-boyfriend was threatening her and saying he would take her children.
3:22 p.m. A Chama caller reported his uncle got in his face and threatened to beat him up, then drove away recklessly.
4:44 p.m. A North Riverside Drive Allsup’s caller reported shoplifters got aggressive with employees and threw things at them, then left in a BMW.
5:34 p.m. A Crisis Center of Northern New Mexico caller reported she declined a drunk woman and the woman said she would come back with a gun and a man.
6:09 p.m. An Abiquiú Family Dollar caller reported three men by the dumpsters had a gun.
7:33 p.m. A Chimayó caller reported his teenage son pushed him in a ditch and threatened to kill him.
Steal ‘n Smash
12:14 a.m. A Chimayó caller reported his mother’s boyfriend was drunkenly threatening to beat her up.
12:33 a.m. An Ohkay Casino caller reported she was getting kicked out of the casino but they were touching her and she did not know what to do.
6:41 a.m. An Española caller reported a woman knocked on her door saying her boyfriend beat her up. An officer took the woman to her home.
10:48 a.m. A Del Taco caller reported an employee stole her wallet.
1:23 p.m. A La Mesilla caller reported her neighbor cut the wires to her internet and he was very upset. The call was transferred to State Police but the caller called back to ask for a deputy instead, because State Police were harassing her and making her feel unsafe. The call was transferred to State Police again.
3:45 p.m. A Walgreens caller reported a man kept stealing liquor bottles then breaking them outside.
4:21 p.m. A Camino de las Animas caller reported a man hit him and his eye was bleeding.
5:18 p.m. An Española caller reported her husband drunkenly pushed her and broke windows.
6:31 p.m. Several North McCurdy Road callers reported hearing shots fired. One said the shots came from a car in the area.
7:33 p.m. A Chama caller reported she was pregnant and her boyfriend hit her in the stomach, then hung up when dispatchers asked her name. When called back, she said everything was fine and she just wanted to prove a point to her boyfriend.
9:48 p.m. A Wendy’s caller reported a woman was outside taking pictures of employees.
10:26 p.m. A Santa Clara Apartments caller reported a drug dealer threatened to beat her up.
2:50 a.m. A Cuartelez caller reported people with weapons were looking around suspiciously and throwing fingers at him. He called back to say the people shot at him and he shot back.
1:08 p.m. An Española caller reported a man sexually assaulted him when he was a child and he wanted to make a report.
1:54 p.m. An Española caller requested to make a report about her massage therapist touching her inappropriately.
10:08 p.m. An Alcalde caller reported her cousin took her infant son and had not brought him back. Officers got the child.
10:41 p.m. A Paseo de Paulina caller reported her husband had been missing for four days and she learned from video surveillance that he was at the casino with a woman she thought was a heroin addict.
1:03 a.m. An Ohkay Owingeh caller reported eight people were on his roof with drones and guns, putting lights all around his windows. Officers spoke with the man and found no one in the area.
8:03 a.m. A North Riverside Drive caller reported she was driving past Dandy Burger and someone shot out her window with a BB gun.
11:00 a.m. A man walked into the Española Police Department office to report he was battered by a city officer at the Shop With a Cop event. He went to the hospital for his injuries and asked to meet with a supervisor there.
1:18 p.m. An Ohkay Owingeh caller reported a woman was watching his two chihuahuas and she gave them away.
3:32 p.m. A Murphy Express caller reported a couple was arguing and the man started kicking the woman and chasing her around with a rock.
3:49 p.m. A Calle don Alfredo caller reported her neighbor was throwing apples in her yard and she had a restraining order on him.
4:27 p.m. A Chama caller reported her neighbor broke into her home, stole her television, and flooded the home.
5:02 p.m. An Española caller reported a man in her home was kicking and destroying things.
7:57 p.m. A North Riverside Drive caller reported she was involved in a hit-and-run accident in front of Washington Federal.
7:58 p.m. A Velarde caller reported her daughter just got out of jail and was trying to break into her home.
10:38 p.m. An Española Hospital caller reported a man threatened over the phone to shoot up the hospital.
Holly Jolly Battery
1:45 a.m. A Calle don Pedro caller reported her sister was destroying things in their house.
10:11 a.m. A Hernandez caller reported a man was walking in and out of her drug dealer’s yard, potentially to steal, and hitting dogs with a stick.
11:17 a.m. A woman walked into the Sheriff’s Office to report a man held her and her co-worker hostage at knifepoint on the side of the road in Chimayó, but they were able to get away.
3:55 p.m. A Walgreens caller requested that officers go with her mother to pick up the caller’s daughter from her father, because the daughter did not feel safe.
7:01 p.m. An Ohkay Express Mart caller reported a highly-intoxicated woman was running into traffic trying to get hit by a car.
7:32 p.m. A Chimayó caller reported her grandson was being disorderly because she would not take him to town to get whiskey. A deputy took the grandson to stay with another family member in Española.
8:17 p.m. An Ohkay Owingeh caller asked to make a report about a woman abandoning her children.
8:25 p.m. An Ohkay Casino caller reported a woman running in traffic in distress. The woman was released to her grandmother.
8:35 p.m. A Calle Adelante caller reported his daughter received a text saying someone would shoot at her car.
8:38 p.m. A DeVargas Funeral Home caller reported a woman would not let her leave the parking lot. Officers arrested the woman.
9:40 p.m. A Santa Clara Apartments caller reported hearing a girl screaming and crying on the side of the building. The screaming girl’s mother told an officer that her daughter fought with another woman and did not know where she was.
9:55 p.m. A Tierra Amarilla caller reported two men were fighting. Officers arrested one of the men.
10:45 a.m. An Española caller reported her husband was harassing her and hit her car with a shovel.
11:24 a.m. A Vista del Rio Apartments caller reported somebody shot at another person.
3:01 p.m. A Walgreens caller reported a man was refusing to leave and throwing water at the manager.
4:09 p.m. A Calle de Pajarito caller asked to have a drunk woman removed from his home.
