SUN Staff Report

The Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a burglary at the Española home of state District Court Judge Sheri Raphaelson.

Raphaelson reported the burglary Feb. 23 around 6 p.m, according to 911 dispatch logs. Deputy Raymond Romero said Raphaelson told him she had returned home and found her house had been broken into.

Romero declined to say what was stolen, except that he valued it at more than $1,000 and that Raphaelson called again some days later to report she had discovered additional property missing from a field by her house. Raphaelson confirmed most of the property stolen from her house was jewelry, but declined to comment further.

“I really don’t want to give out any more details, because of safety, about my living situation,” Raphaelson said.

Romero said he has not identified suspects in the burglary. Raphaelson, who was appointed to her seat last year and is up for election this year, hears cases in Tierra Amarilla.
