Doris J. “Jessie” Salazar

Doris J. “Jessie” Salazar, 82, of Los Ojos, NM, was called home to our Lord on December 15, 2021.

She was born September 16, 1939, in Holidaysburg, PA, to William and Ellen Baker. She was preceded in death by her husband Benny, her parents Bill and Ellen, her siblings Robert, Kathleen, Louise, Pauline, and Joanne. She is survived by her children, Scott Salazar, and wife Angela, of Lewisburg, OH, and their children Mikaela Elam and husband Jason, and Eric Salazar; Richard Salazar, and wife Özlem, of Albuquerque, NM, and their children Elizabeth Salazar, Joshua Salazar, Nicholas Salazar, Quentin Salazar, Olivia Salazar,

Addison Salazar, Atticus Salazar, and Ömer Merttürk; Tina Salazar Driggers, of Edgewood, NM; Beniva Salazar, of Albuquerque, NM and her daughter Cassandra. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret Yoder of Johnstown, PA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews scattered all around the country.

Jessie spent many years in Albuquerque with her husband Benny, and raised her children there. But her real home was always Los Ojos, NM, where she lived for nearly forty years. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Jessie loved the many cats she shared her life with over the years, and dedicated countless hours to the Chama Valley Humane Society.

As she wished, there will be no formal funeral services. Her ashes will be scattered in a private celebration of life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to either the Chama Valley Humane Society, PO Box 131, Chama NM 87520, or Felines and Friends of New Mexico, 369 Montezuma Ave. Santa Fe, NM 87501. The family of Doris J. “Jessie” Salazar have entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home of the Espanola Valley. 505-747-7477 www.devargasfuneral.com
