Our dear beloved Fermin “Grandpa Muscles” Chavez, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, October 11, 2020. Fermin was preceded in death by parents, Jose Ramon and Miquileta Chavez; children, Linda and Daniel Manzanares, Karen Chavez and Tommy Maestas; grandchildren, Alejandro, Manuel, Joshua, Nicholas, and Angela. Fermin was born on February 27, 1937 to Jose Ramon and Miquileta Chavez. He retired from EG&G, where he worked for 28 years. He was known by many in bowling where he succeeded a 300 game, he participated in golf where he scored “hole in one” four times, and he also loved to play pool.  Mr. Chavez is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mary Lou Chavez; sons, Allen Chavez, Mark Chavez, Gary Chavez, and Robert Chavez (Julia); 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild, and numerous family and friends. Public visitation was on Monday, October 19, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary which was recited at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz. A burial followed at the Holy Cross Cemetery with the following who served as pallbearers, Elias Manzanares, Jonathan Chavez, Bryan Chavez, Lino Manzanares, Eric Chavez, Isaiah Chavez, Gabriel Manzanares, and Jaysiah Manzanares. Honorary pallbearers named were, Franco Atencio, Jr., Daniel Maestas, Adam Trujillo, Franco Atencio Sr., Parker Wells, Nat Martinez, Frank Marquez, Felix Chavez, Arturo Chavez, and Luis Chavez.
