Pilar V. Archuleta, 99, Española, died Wednesday, March 31, 2021.
Mrs. Archuleta was born Oct. 12, 1921 in El Guache. She grew up on a farm consisting of large fruit orchards and vegetable gardens spread over many acres of land. She had the responsibility of caring for her youngest siblings and also assisting her parents with cultivating the fields and harvesting and canning the crops.
She attended Española High School. She married Ramon Archuleta on April 27, 1941 at the San Antonio Church in La Villita. The couple moved to San Francisco, where they started a family.
They returned to Espanola to raise their growing family. After Ramon Archuleta’s death in 1969, Mrs. Archuleta began working outside the home to support her seven children. She worked as a maid at the La Fonda Hotel then went on to work at a candle factory and a leather sewing factory.
Later she worked as a foster grandparent for Española Elementary School where she was loved by many students.
Mrs. Archuleta was preceded in death by her parents Adelia and Santiago Gallegos, husband, brothers Severo, Arturo, Elizardo, Luciano and Jimmy Gallegos; sisters Genoveva and Andrea; children Manuel Archuleta, Mary Agnes Maestas and Sarah Gutierrez and five grandchildren.
She is survived by her brothers Fred Gallegos and Johnny Gallegos, sister Cres Sanchez, children Juvela Naranjo, Viola Quintana, Sandra Borunda, Prescilla Riofrio, Martha Salazar and Geraldine Sena; sons Roberto Archuleta, Roy Archuleta and Joseph Archuleta, 40 grandchildren, 72 great grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Public Visitation will begin at 6:30 p.m., Thursday (4/8) at Victory Faith, followed by services at 7 p.m. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday at Victory Faith followed by burial at Loma Vista Cemetery in Alcalde.
Jared May, Aaron Archuleta, Nate Archuleta, Jesse Salazar, Ramon Archuleta, Noah Gutierrez will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Fabian Riofrio Jr, Justin Hickman, Steve Maestas, Ramon Fidel Archuleta, Gabriel Salazar and Donna Medina.
