Thelma Jean Montoya

Thelma Jean Montoya, 70, born on April 19, 1951, a resident of Ranchitos who was born and raised in Dixon, NM, passed away on September 18, 2021. 

Thelma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She had a huge heart and would help anyone when she could. She helped raise her grandchildren. She enjoyed going to the casinos and playing bingo. She worked in home health care for over 40 years. She will be missed dearly. 

Thelma is preceded in death by her parents Alfredo and Annie Montoya; her beloved husband of 41 years Seferino Serrano Jr.; her son Tommy Serrano; sister Erlin Montoya; brothers Alfred Cruz, Roger, and Melvin Montoya Sr.; in-laws Marcelina and Seferino Serrano Sr.; sister-in-law Evangeline Archuleta; brother-in-laws Joe Jaramillo, and Armando Ortiz whom she cared for dearly; and stepson Christopher Roybal.

She is survived by her daughter Melinda of Espanola, NM; son Marty of Ranchitos; her beloved dog Pickles; sisters Charlene Trujillo (Frutoso) of Cordova, Lilian Brito (Joe) of Taylorsville, Utah; sisters-in-law Maria Montoya, Annie Jaramillo, Jane Ortiz, Ella Lujan, Linda Carnley, Yvonne Serrano, and Susie Aveldano (Manuel); grandchildren Adrian, Jeremiah, Alonzo, Anika, Marcelina, Jacob, Macky, Iesha, Nicholas, Samantha, and Eddie Jr., and step-son Eddie Serrano Sr.; special niece Valerie Gonzales; dear family friends Scott Herrera, and Michelle Herrera; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. 

Pallbearers will be Adrian Serrano, Scott Herrera, Abel Trujillo, Melvin Montoya Jr., Charles Marrufo, and Joe Medina. 

Honorary Pallbearers will be Alonzo Serrano, Jeremiah Serrano, Marcelina Michalski, and Larry “Bobo” Martinez. 

A visitation was on Monday September 27, 2021 at 9:00 am followed by services at 10:00 am at the DeVargas Funeral Home Sangre de Cristo Chapel. Burial was followed at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
