VERJILIO U. TORRES, 67, a resident of Cordova passed away on Monday, October 14, 2019 after a lengthy illness surrounded by his loving and caring family. Verjilio was preceded in death by his father, Leopoldo Torres; brother, Tony Torres, paternal grandparents, Julian and Rafelita Torres, maternal grandparents, Luciano and Sophia Vigil; brother-in-law, Lito Montoya. Verjilio was a United States Army Veteran from 1971-1973 his tour of duty was in South Korea. He worked for Rio Arriba County as a heavy machine operator. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and horseback riding. He is survived by his daughter, Virginia Montoya (Frankie); mother, Cleotilde Torres; sisters, Vivian Avenilde, Rosella Montoya, Rita Vigil (Tim), brothers, Laybe Torres, Manuel, Senovio (Audrey), Clarence, David, Albert (Lorraine), Julian and Leroy; nephews, James Montoya (Stella), Victor Montoya (Anna), Matthew, Fabian (Kelly), Marvin (Crystal), Daniel (Loretta), nieces, Bethany and Sophia, great nephews and nieces, Julias, Victor Jr., Lucas, Chris, Noah, Caleb, Kylie, Mason, Arianna, Malayah, and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation was on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary that was recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo, with a burial that followed at the Cordova  Catholic Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers were James Montoya, Victor Montoya, Fabian Torres, Marvin Torres, Daniel Torres and Frankie Vigil. The family of Verjilio U.
