Verna Valdez, age 59. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Verna who passed away on October 13, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Verna was born on June 12, 1960 in Vernal, UT to Pedro and Agueda (Aggie) Garcia. Verna was the oldest of seven children and was preceded in death by her mother in 1967. She is survived by her husband, Felix Valdez; a Son, James Martinez of Coyote and a daughter, Pamela Martinez of Albuquerque; her father, Pedro Garcia of Coyote, brothers, Norbert Garcia (Arlene) of Medanales, Benavidez Garcia (Mildred) of Hernandez, Randy Garcia (Janelle) of Gallina, Tom Garcia (Suzy) of Maryland, Tim (Fernanda) of Chamita, a Sister, Phaedra Roybal (Albert) of Santa Fe, One Grandson, Three Step daughters, three Step-Grandchildren, many relatives, and special friends. Public visitation was at 6:00 p.m. on  Friday October 18, 2019 in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a Devotional Service which followed at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service was held on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a burial that followed at Coyote Cemetery. Assisting the Family as Pallbearers were Justin Garcia, Andrew Garcia, Tomas Garcia, Jon Michael Garcia, Nathaniel Salazar, and Nicholas Morfin. Honorary Pallbearers were Tommy Valdez, Vincent Valdez, Manuel Valdez, Caleb Valdez, Steve Garcia, Patrick Garcia and Leonard Garcia. The family of Verna Valdez has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley. 505-747-7477
