Hats off to Carmela Roybal and Miranda Lopez for speaking up about the violence problem in our community(ies) stemming from drug addiction, gangs and poverty. (Rio Grande SUN, “Sundevil Senior Pleads for Community to Address Violence Issue, Jan. 24, 2019, page B1)

It takes a village and it’s long overdue. As community members we need to take back our community and to speak up if we witness or know of any wrongdoing, such as a questionable death. It’s the right thing to do.

Gone are the days of not wanting to get involved. This is our community and we can’t let evil win. Speak up, be the change.

A strong police presence would also be helpful. Where are they?
