Letters to the Editor
Changing Destiny Española Valley is a beautiful place to live and have your family enjoying the blessed multi-cultural and diverse population.
This beauty has been changing little by little due to lack of men with character, foresight in planning for a better future of the constituents, but they keep themselves running for whatever position there is available and their slogan is always the same “I’m running for … because I love the people and the city” the real reason they keep running and they keep being elected is because that is what make them important and people keep electing the same recycle candidates because they do not know better.
Today, Española faces serious challenges, with issues like high crime, drugs, homelessness, and current politicians (leaders?) have no idea how to resolve, and they keep having a council meeting, keep talking, keep planning without any accomplishments.
Today in the ballot, there is two (2) men who have already held power; one as the current mayor and the other as a city councilor for over 20 years. They both have not delivered any progress to our community and now they are running again with the same old promises.
I endorse a writing in candidate, Joann V. Salazar for Mayor of Española. She has over 30 years of government leadership experience, Joann V. Salazar brings competence, integrity, and vision. She is independent and knows how to build partnerships that include all sectors of our community, city, county, and tribal governments alike.
Española deserves a new leadership that celebrates multi-cultural diversity, and she is willing to accept ideas and inputs from the community, while shaping a stronger, safer, and more prosperous future. Please join me in changing our city’s destiny by electing Joann V. Salazar to lead us there.

Above and Beyond Not long after John Ramon Vigil took office in 2022, my family was faced with the unfortunate passing of my father. Soon after the passing of my Father, my recently widowed mother received a letter from North Central Solid Waste Authority. This letter stated that they would no longer be able to drive down the small dirt road my childhood home is on, to collect the trash. This meant my mother would have to walk her trash bin 200+ yards to have it collected.
My mother had many health issues herself, which would have made walking her bin to US84/285, extremely difficult. I was visiting her one day and she called me over to look out of her window. I saw Mayor Vigil personally unloading her blue bin into a trash compactor. I found out about one week later that Mayor Vigil was going to make sure that the citizens of Española would have little to no changes when and where their trash would be collected. When I saw this, I thought to myself, that’s the kind of Mayor Española can make use of. That’s the kind of Mayor I can personally support. We have a few choices for mayor this coming election and believe my vote is going to the candidate who was willing to go above and beyond, and not the candidates who do nothing but talk about the negative aspects of their peers instead of ways to improve our city .
