Eileen J. Herrera 10.20.1952 – 2.20.2026

Eileen Juanita Herrera, lovingly known to all as a nurturing spirit, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026, surrounded by her loving family in Chamita, New Mexico. Born on October 20, 1952, in Ranchitos, New Mexico, Eileen was a beacon of light and warmth to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
She cherished her role as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother above all else. Married to her beloved husband, Alfonso Andres Herrera, on December 7, 1974, at the San Juan De Bautista Parish, they created a beautiful life together, filled with love and joy. Eileen’s pride in her family was evident in every aspect of her life. Being a mother to her children, Lupe Archuleta, April Ann Herrera, Elizabeth Herrera, and Denise Herrera brought her immense joy, and she showered her grandchildren — Andrea, Michael, Ryan, and Shania — with unwavering love and support. Her heart expanded even further as she welcomed her great-grandchildren: Denisha, Natalia, Natasha, Rosemary, Kaylee, Miguel, Little Anthony, and Josiah, each one a treasure to her.
Eileen was known for her generous and kind-hearted nature. She always thought of others before herself, and her giving spirit extended to all her cherished family members and friends. She found solace in her faith and frequently watched her church services on television, embodying a spirit of devotion that inspired those around her. Eileen’s vibrant personality shone through her many hobbies. She took great pleasure in tending to her garden, always on the lookout for new blooms or vegetables to add. Among her favorite finds were cucumbers, chili, tomatoes, and an array of beautiful flowers, which brightened not only her home but also the lives of those who visited.
In addition to her love for gardening, Eileen had a passion for shopping, often exploring thrift stores and Craigslist for unique treasures, from elegant silverware to charming ornaments. Her zest for life was palpable, as evidenced by her fondness for watching television novellas and classic shows like Bonanza and Gunsmoke, adding laughter and joy to her days.
Eileen will be profoundly missed by her family, who will carry her spirit in their hearts forever. She leaves behind her loving husband, Alfonso Andres, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and countless cherished family members and friends who were touched by her kindness and generosity.
Eileen is welcomed into eternal rest by her dear daughter, Denise Cathrine Herrera; her beloved mother, Candelaria Romero; her father, Delfinio Archuleta; and her brothers, Raymond Archuleta and Lawrence Archuleta, all of whom she loved dearly.
As we gather to celebrate Eileen’s extraordinary life, we will honor her memory with a Rosary on March 3, 2026, at 6:00pm at Rivera Family Funerals & Cremations of Espanola. This will be followed by a Mass service on March 4, 2026, at 12:00pm at San Juan Bautista Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Interment will be at Chamita Cemetery immediately following mass.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jerome Medina, Jimmy Medina, Brandon Quintana, Joseph Archuleta, Estevan Herrera, and Ryan Rodriguez.
Honorary pallbearers will be Eileen’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and Robert Herrera.
