Local Athletes Honored With Awards

Now that high school basketball is a done deal, awards season is upon us. And not surprisingly, the local prep basketball players pulled in quite a few honors:
Boys
Española Valley
District 2-4A First team, Miguel Orozco, Irvin Primero; Second team, Isaiah Dominguez, Isaiah Chavez.
McCurdy
District 5-2A First team: Emelio Espinoza.
Pojoaque Valley
District 2-4A First team, Serafin Mendez, Joziah Salazar; Second team, Andres Trevizo, Joshua Gonzales; Honorable mention, Trevor Rivera, Dion Luna; All-Academic, Rivera, Ezekiel Atencio, Azariah Martinez, D’Marko Gutierrez.
Coronado
District 1-1A First team, Troy Valdez, Conner Davis, Santos Martinez.
Girls
Mesa Vista
District 5-2A Co-Player of the Year, Aaliyah Boies; First team, Aubrey Maestas, Jordyn Serrano, Valery Martinez, Isabella Gallegos; Honorable mention, Janessa Sandoval, Charlene Archuleta, Jaslene Torrez; Coach of the Year, Jesse Boies.
Pojoaque Valley
District 2-4A Player of the Year, Monique Arrietta, second consecutive season; First team, Savannah Pacheco; Second team, Gerrianna Romero.
Dulce
District 1-2A All-district, Mattison Vigil, Emma Martinez-Pierce.
In addition to the All-District awards, several local players were a part of the annual Red-Green senior All-Star Games, which were held this past weekend at the Rio Rancho Event Center.
For the girls, McCurdy’s Kaylee Martinez represented the Red team in the Class 1A/2A game. And Española Valley’s Leah Vigil and Olivia Martinez represented Green in the 3A/4A game.
For the boys, Mesa Vista’s Jordan Gallegos, Santiago Martinez, as well as Escalante’s RJ Atencio represented Green in the 1A/2A game. And Joziah Salazar and Serafin Mendez of Pojoaque Valley represented Green in the 3A/4A game.
