Spring Sports Head Into District Play

It seems like the spring sports schedule just got started but the sports are already heading into district play.
Baseball
March 31
McCurdy 12, Jemez Valley 9
Isaac Corona had four RBIs on three hits and he scored three runs, while Ethan Bolton had two hits, including a triple and three RBIs, while also tossing three strong innings with five strikeouts for the host Bobcats (1-5).
April 1
Moriarty 10, EspaƱola Valley 0
Aaron Quintana and Aiden Guinn each doubled, but the visiting Sundevils (4-10-1, 0-1 in District 2-4A) only managed one other hit in losing to the Pintos.
April 4
Taos 17, EspaƱola Valley 4; Taos 27, EspaƱola Valley 9
The host Sundevils (4-12-1, 0-3 in District 2-4A) jumped out to 4-0 first-inning lead, but they could not hold on against the Tigers. Jayden Archuleta had two hits, scored twice and drove in one. In the opener, Archuleta had a solo homer among his two hits and also scored three runs for EspaƱola.

JosƩ Lujan had three hits, including a triple, and drove in three runs for the host Elks (4-12, 0-2 in District 2-4A) in the second game of a doubleheader against the Pintos. In the opener, Israel Hall had two hits an RBI.
Softball
March 31
St. Michaelās 19, Pojoaque Valley 2; St. Michaelās 19, Pojoaque Valley 0
Alison Paytiamo had an RBI double in the opener for the visiting Lady Sundevils (2-11) and Makayla Sanchez had the only hit in the second game of a doubleheader against the Lady Horsemen.
April 1
Moriarty 12, EspaƱola Valley 2
The visiting Lady Sundevils (4-10, 0-1 District 2-4A) got two hits each from Leah Vigil and Nayleah Martinez, while Alyssa Lomayma had their only RBI against the Lady Pintos.
April 4
EspaƱola Valley 18, Taos 8, EspaƱola Valley 15, Taos 5
Alyssa Lomayma had four hits and three RBIs and Leah Vigil and Dionicka Maestas each had three hits and combined to score seven runs for the host Lady Sundevils (4-12, 2-1 in District 2-4A) in the second game of a doubleheader against the Lady Tigers. In the opener, Vigil went off for six RBIs, collecting four hits, three runs while hitting two doubles and a triple as EspaƱola broke a seven-game losing streak.

Elizabeth Hansen had the host Elkettes (2-13, 0-2 in District 2-4A) only two hits of the doubleheader, including a run-scoring triple in the opener against the Pintos.
Track and field
April 2
Escalante
Julio Lujan was fifth in the 400 in 54.92 seconds at the Buffalo Relays at Melrose, while Annlee Robinson was sixth in both the 100 and 200 dashes in 13.95 and 29.16.
April 4
EspaƱola Valley
For the girls, Neveah Cachora ran the 3,200-meter run in 12 minutes, 33.12 seconds to win the event at the Meadow City Invite at Robertson in Las Vegas. Also atop the podium, Averi Shultz won the long jump in 16-feet, 6¼-inches.
For the boys, the 4×100 relay team grabbed gold in a time of 46.39 seconds.
Pojoaque Valley
The girls 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams each won at the Meadow City meet in 52.39 and 1:51.39 seconds respectively.
For the boys, the 4×200 relay group won in 1:38.76.
McCurdy
Mateo Martinez ran a 58.71 in the 400 to take third at the Meadow City meet. And Avery Knight was fifth in the 800 in 2:44.06, while Marisol Serna was fifth in the 1,600 in 6:23.60.
Mesa Vista
Andres Valdez went 43.24 to win the 300 hurdles at the Meadow City meet. He was also third in the 100 in 11.89. Jonathan Martinez was second in the high jump at 5-4 and Jordan Gallegos was second in the javelin in 115-6.
Jordyn Serrano cleared 4-6 in the high jump at Meadow City to take third.
Coronado
LaKendra Salazar went 69-9 to take eighth in the javelin at the Fear the Gap meet at Piedra Vista in Farmington.
And Eli Martinez was eighth in the 300 hurdles in 48.81.
Dulce
Anya Rivas threw the javelin 75-9 at the Fear the Gap meet to finish sixth, while Kiana Vicenti was sixth in the high jump after clearing 4-2.
Tennis
EspaƱola Valley
The girls had a strong showing at the Albuquerque Academy Invite, going 2-1, only losing to the six-time defending state champion Chargers, 8-1. The doubles team of Isabella Archuleta and Amelia Davis-Martinez kept that match from being a whitewash, although it took 18 points for Archuleta to drop the third set of her singles match. In the other matches, the Sundevils beat Albuquerque High 5-4, thanks to the doubles teams sweeping all three of its matches, and they beat district rival Los Alamos 6-3 winning five of the six singles matches.
The boys were swept in their first two matches at the Academy Invite, but rallied to beat Eldorado 6-3 by winning five of the six singles matches.
Golf
April 6
EspaƱola Valley
Jessie Trujillo shot a 114 to finish seventh at the Sundevil Black Mesa Open at the Black Mesa Golf Club. She was followed in 11th place by Kyla Moore, seven strokes back.
For the boys, Daniel Purdy and Marcus Calvert tied for 13th after each shot 89. The Sundevils boys took fourth place in the tournament, shooting a 368, 48 strokes behind winner Los Alamos. The girls did not have four players so were unable to field a full team.
