Fernando Steven War 8.18.85-2.25.26

FERNANDO STEVEN WAR, 40, a resident of Española, passed away on February 25, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 18, 1985, in Española, NM. Fernando was a beloved father, son, brother, grandson, uncle and Godfather and friend to many. He was employed by Española and Pojoaque Public Schools. Known for his big heart, Fernando was deeply loved by his family and friends.
He enjoyed long rides through the mountains with his brother Elias, going four-wheeling and fishing. Fernando had a loving, protective and strong personality. He had the most infectious laugh that matched his beautiful smile, that made it impossible to stay upset with him for too long.
His biggest accomplishment and pride was being a father to his daughter, Keanna. He loved her with all his heart and cherished their special bond, always doting on her and celebrating her achievements.
As Nando would always say, “It’s never goodbye, it’s always later.”
Fernando was preceded in death by his father Archie (Jose) War Jr.; aunt Anabelle War; uncle Freddie (Jose) Lovato; Grandparents Federico and Celia Lovato; and close cousin Aspen Newman.
Fernando is survived by his daughter Keanna Chavez War (Isaiah); mother MaryLou Lovato (Ronnie); brother, best friend and confidant Elias War (Crystal); brother, Daniel Ray War; nephew/Godson, Elias Dominic War; nieces, Marissa Garcia (Eric); and Carter Rae War; Grandparents, Arsenio (lovingly known to him as “Grandpito”) and Isabel War; and mother of his daughter, Angelina Chavez (Ariel).
