Alfonso Duran (Al or Fungi) passed on January 22, 2026. Born in Dixon, New Mexico, in 1937 and raised in Santa Fe and Española, Al led a purposeful life dedicated to his family and the service of his community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfonso Duran Sr. and Dolores (Chavez) Duran; his sister, Mae; and his daughter, Clarissa, and her partner, Phil Charos.

He is survived by his ex-wife, Arlene; his daughter, Danielle; and his grandchildren, Alejandro Coronado, Magdalena Coronado, and her partner, Adriano Ottoborgo. Al will be deeply missed, but his legacy remains through his family and his commitment to improving New Mexico for everyone.

Funeral services will be held at Santa Cruz Methodist Church on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 10:00 am, followed by a reception at the Fellowship Hall, and burial at the La Loma Vista Cemetery in Alcalde, NM.
