Student-Led Production of Lost Girl Brings Live Theater to Española Community

From a Press Release
The Drama Club of Upward Bound Española will present a student-driven production of “Lost Girl” by playwright Kimberly Belflower at 7 p.m. Friday (3/20) and Saturday (3/21). at the Nick Salazar Center for the Arts at Northern New Mexico College. The performances are free and open to the public.
“Lost Girl” re-imagines the world of Peter Pan through the eyes of Wendy years later, exploring memory, imagination and what it means to grow up. Blending humor, nostalgia and emotional reflection, the play invites audiences to reconsider familiar characters and stories from a new perspective.
This production is created and performed entirely by students in Upward Bound Española, a college access program that serves local high school students. Participants in the program take the lead in every aspect of the show, from acting and stage management to set design, lighting and promotion. The project offers students a rare opportunity to gain hands-on experience in theater production while developing confidence, creativity and collaboration skills.
By producing a full stage production, Upward Bound students are helping bring live theater experiences to their peers, families and the broader community.
“This show represents what students can accomplish when they are given the space to create,” Tobe Bott-Lyons, director of the Upward Bound program, said. “Our students are not only performers, they are the creative team behind the entire production.”
Community members, families and students are encouraged to attend and support the performers. Seating is open and available on a first-come basis.
