The police blotter is published to give readers an abridged look at criminal activity in their community and neighborhood. It is simply an illustration of what local law enforcement, funded by taxpayers, must deal with daily throughout the Española Valley.

All in the Family
Feb. 26
3:49 a.m. An officer stopped a wrong-way driver near Circle C.
7:22 a.m. A Holy Cross church caller said a man is in the church and lying on the pews. He was allowed to stay inside during mass but now he won’t leave.
7:44 a.m. An RTD caller requested a welfare check on a woman in front of the bus stop at Allsups who was lying on the ground and was covered with a blanket.
7:44 a.m. A Hernandez caller said his son’s mother’s new boyfriend is harassing him because he got involved with his sister. The boyfriend now wants to fight him.
8:05 a.m. A County Road 15 caller reported a breaking and entering in progress.
8:23 a.m. A Rio Arriba County Detention Center caller said an incident occurred and a guard wants to file charges against an inmate who threw milk at them.
8:27 a.m. A minor was in possession at Española Valley High School.
8:35 a.m. A State Road 369 caller reported his wife hasn’t “been acting right” for a few days and she’s creating problems and fighting with him when he tries to leave.
10:15 a.m. A caller said a woman is selling the newspaper by Taco Bell but they’ve seen her do several drug transactions. An officer watched her but no further action was taken.
10:47 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man lying on the ground near the Fairview Post Office who may have been hit by a vehicle. The man refused medical treatment and said he fell off his bicycle.
11:37 a.m. A South Coronado Avenue caller reported power tools, rims and other tools were taken from his truck.
11:41 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a 7- or 8-year-old child who was carrying a scooter and walking in the median near Hernandez Elementary.
11:49 a.m. An Española Middle School counselor requested a welfare check on a 13-year-old girl who posted a video on social media showing her drinking and vaping.
12:24 p.m. A Hernandez caller said she got a threatening phone call from her grandson.
1:21 p.m. A Velarde caller requested a welfare check on a man standing up and sleeping in the middle of the road.
2:19 p.m. A woman went to the Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s Office because she believes she may have purchased a stolen vehicle.
2:37 p.m. An Española Hospital caller requested assistance because a Curry County deputy was doing a transport through Española and their inmate took pills.
5:21 p.m. A Lyden caller reported a man is walking in the area and carrying a rifle.
6:04 p.m. An older truck was on fire in Ohkay Owingeh.
6:17 p.m. An Española Sports Medicine caller said a vehicle is parked on the side of the building and they can see two people possibly doing drugs.
10:15 p.m. A man’s death was reported on Willow Mountain Road.
Friday is Alright for Fighting
Feb. 27
12:08 a.m. An officer pursued a vehicle into Hernandez at speeds up to 120 mph. After the driver led the officer through Ohkay Owingeh and back into city limits, it was last seen headed toward the Dreamcatcher theater.
12:44 a.m. A Manzanita Drive in Chama caller reported hearing gunshots outside and said someone was throwing rocks and damaged his house.
2:46 a.m. A woman wanted on a warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon led police on a foot chase on North Riverside Drive.
6:09 a.m. An Allsups caller said her boyfriend hit her, pulled a gun on her and kicked her out of his vehicle.
8:32 a.m. A Twist in Chama caller reported a rock was thrown through the window of the business.
9:46 a.m. An Alcalde caller said an unknown person is texting her and saying she owes them $40 and she’s going to be sorry if she doesn’t send it to them.
9:57 a.m. A customer attempted to pay at the Ohkay Travel Center with a counterfeit $100.
10:37 a.m. A man was irate, yelling and trying to attack an employee at Dairy Queen.
10:40 a.m. A man was waving and pointing a gun at a person near Fairview Sonic.
10:45 a.m. A woman was standing behind a dumpster on Laguna Street and doing drugs. She had all her drugs laid out on the concrete.
12:42 p.m. A drunk parent was trying to pick their child up from school in Ohkay Owingeh.
1:24 p.m. A Lindrith caller wanted to speak with an officer because someone was hacking his phone and opening bank accounts in his name.
1:46 p.m. A report for assault was taken at Española Valley High School.
2:32 p.m. A junior at Española Valley High School went to the restroom and someone started banging on the door, unlocked the stall and told her she couldn’t be in there.
3:02 p.m. A Walmart caller reported that when she went to pick up her client, the woman’s wallet was gone.
5:11 p.m. A gunshot wound victim was reported to be at the Los Alamos Medical Center. The incident happened at the Goodwill in Española.
5:30 p.m. A man was trying to fight someone in the Santa Claran Casino Hotel parking lot.
5:54 p.m. A fight was reported at Escalante High School.
8:12 p.m. An overdose was reported in Tierra Amarilla.
9:29 p.m. A Calle Bonita caller said a man was walking around in her yard and urinated.
Fireworks and Carne Seca
Feb. 28
7:22 a.m. A Star Lane caller reported kicking a woman out of her yard, but the woman returned and was throwing items.
8:05 a.m. A Waste Authority in Cordova caller said their bobcat was stolen and they want to file a report.
9:24 a.m. A County Road 1 in Hernandez caller reported her home was broken into and the door was kicked in. Two wagons and other items were taken.
12:46 p.m. A Taos caller was searching for antlers and found a carcass that he thought was human. An Office of the Medical Investigator employee went out and said the bones were not human.
2:17 p.m. A side-by-side crash was reported in Peñasco.
3:03 p.m. A Professional Cleaning Solutions caller said a break-in occurred a couple hours ago and fireworks and carne seca were stolen.
6:47 p.m. A caller reported losing his government badge at Walmart.
10:15 p.m. An officer pursued a side-by-side near the airport in Ohkay Owingeh. 10:48 p.m. A caller said shots were fired near Prairie Dog and people were throwing rocks at their vehicles as they passed by.
Afternoon Shooting
March 1
10:37 a.m. An Ohkay Travel Center caller thinks her maintenance man, who followed her from Albuquerque, is messing with the gauges on her vehicle.
11:57 a.m. A jaywalker was stopped by an officer near Dairy Queen.
12:23 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man in the median at the North Riverside Drive and State Road 76 intersection because he was dancing.
12:49 p.m. A Vallecitos caller found a home was broken into, the doors were kicked in and several items were missing.
2:47 p.m. An jaywalker was stopped by an officer near the Ohkay Express Mart.
2:48 p.m. An officer was involved in a pursuit near Arroyo Seco.
3:35 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a woman lying on the ground near the Blue Bus stop in Chimayó.
3:48 p.m. A Lowe’s Chama Valley Supermarket caller said a man verbally threatened the night manager.
3:58 p.m. A Dixon caller reported her neighbor is shooting a gun in the air.
4:07 p.m. An Alcalde caller said bullets were whizzing past their house and they can hear shots. They saw a man shooting and said he does it all the time.
4:26 p.m. An El Parasol caller reported a man is being belligerent, throwing bottles around, trying to picks fights and yelling at employees and customers.
5:46 p.m. A La Mesilla caller said children are shooting a .22 rifle.
6:22 p.m. An alcohol overdose was reported in Alcalde.
9:29 p.m. A National Guard member and Santa Clara Police units were out with an intoxicated woman who had drug paraphernalia all over at Avanyu Travel Center.
Throwing a Fit
March 2
3:20 a.m. A camper fire was reported on County Road 1 in Hernandez.
6:42 a.m. A La Mesilla caller said someone tried to break into her house.
11 a.m. A Santa Claran Casino Hotel caller reported a security guard was having an argument with someone in the security office.
11:58 a.m. An 11-year-old girl was refusing to listen to her father and get out of the vehicle at McCurdy Charter School. She was screaming and kicking.
1:56 p.m. A report for assault was taken at Española Valley High School.
2:36 p.m. A Dixon caller said a metal grate from the acequia was stolen and is worth about $600.
2:51 p.m. A Chimayó caller reported he was locked in the laundry room because an unwanted man in his house was yelling at him and threatened to get a gun and shoot him.
10:22 p.m. A La Mesilla caller said their son is driving reckless and being very violent toward them.
Too Young to OD
March 3
8:56 a.m. A Chimayó caller reported finding a small dog in her swimming pool and wants animal control to pick it up.
11:11 a.m. A Chimayó caller said a 1-year-old got her head stuck in the bed frame.
11:15 a.m. An Española Transit caller wanted to file a report for vandalism.
12:06 p.m. A caller wanted to file a report because Metro PCS was taking money out of her account.
1:12 p.m. A caller wanted the Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s Office to go to Lucero Center because campaign vehicles were parked too close to the front doors and were dropping people off there.
2:12 p.m. A caller said people holding signs at La Joya Street and South McCurdy Road were running in front of vehicles.
2:43 p.m. A 15-year-old was found lying on a garage floor on Fairview Lane after overdosing. Narcan was administered.
5:43 p.m. A caller said a woman was pulling wires out of an electrical box behind Chili’s.
6:07 p.m. People were panhandling at Taco Bell.
7:49 p.m. A Roadrunner Drive caller reported his ex-girlfriend is trying to get in and assault him.
8:20 p.m. A West Winesap Drive caller said a little boy told her son that he’s being molested. When the caller went to the boy’s house, there was a drunk man passed out on the couch.
8:50 p.m. National Guard members reported people are setting up an encampment behind KFC.
10:13 p.m. An Española Hospital caller said a drunk man who’d been discharged was refusing to leave.
11:03 p.m. A man’s death was reported on County Road 181 in Hernandez.
Pierced at School
March 4
8:17 a.m. An El Pilar Food Truck caller said someone broke into the truck.
10:16 a.m. A McCurdy Charter School caller reported a student hasn’t been in school all week and last time she was at school, she was aggressive and had bruises on her face.
2:15 p.m. A report was taken at Española Valley High School for assault.
2:55 p.m. An Alcalde caller reported her neighbor is trying to destroy her fence.
4:59 p.m. A Calle Armada caller said someone just stole her vehicle from her yard.
7:34 p.m. A caller wanted an officer to talk to her sister because she’s getting pierced at school and has been showing up with more piercings every week.
9:30 p.m. An Ohkay Casino caller requested an ambulance because a man was tased and he hit his face on the ground.
