It was a fairly light slate for spring sports as the state basketball tournament took center stage.

Baseball

March 9

Oak Grove Academy 7, Española Valley 6; Española Valley 9, Oak Grove Academy 9, six innings

Trailing 7-5 in the opener, the visiting Sundevils got one run back in the sixth but could not push across the tying run against the Owls. In the second game, Española (1-6-1) held a 9-6 lead going into the bottom of the sixth before Oak Grove came back to tie it in its half of the inning and the game was called at that point because of time.

March 10

Capital 10, Pojoaque Valley 2; Pojoaque Valley 10, Capital 2

Leadoff hitter Ezekial Atencio drove in three runs thanks to two triples and Andres Trevizo and José Lujan each had two RBI as the host Elks (3-4) salvaged the back end of a doubleheader against the Jaguars, with Isaiah Martinez getting the win on the mound. Pojoaque managed, however, just five hits in the opener, with Martinez collecting two of the hits, and Sosiua Kailahi and Jeremy Rendon each driving in a run.

Softball

March 10

Grants 10, Española Valley 3

The visiting Lady Sundevils (0-3) led 3-2 through their half of the fifth before the Lady Pirates got their bats going. Nayleah Martinez had three hits, including a double, and Sarai Maestas and Aliah Villalobos each had two doubles and a run for Española.

March 12

Bloomfield 18, Española Valley 7

Alyssa Lomayma had two RBIs and scored a run and Leah Vigil added an RBI and a run as the Lady Sundevils (0-4) trailed just 6-5 after three innings, but then their bats went cold while the Lady Bobcats kept pounding away in the opener of a tournament.

March 13

Eldorado 20, Española Valley 2

Leah Vigil had two hits, including a double and Taylyne Aragon drove in a run for the Lady Sundevils (0-5) against the Lady Eagles in the second game of tournament play.

Capital 22, Pojoaque Valley 3

The good news is the host Elkettes (2-2) drew three walks and all three runners scored. The bad news is they were no-hit by the Lady Jaguars.

March 14

Española Valley 17, Albuquerque Academy 0

Nayleah Martinez drove in three runs and Kayla Quintana, Dionicka Maestas and Aliah Villalobos each added two RBIs, while Quintana pitched three shutout innings to power the Lady Sundevils (1-5) to their first win of the season in the tournament finale against the Lady Chargers.
