Program on Homelessness Offered
From a Press Release
“Understanding Homelessness,” a program that offers an in-depth look at the causes and effects of this major challenge, will be offered at 6:30 p.m. today (4/16) at SALA and at 6:30 p.m. April 28 at the White Rock United Methodist Church.
Sponsored by the Interfaith Coalition on Homelessness (ICOH), it is a 90-minute presentation by two local speakers: Glenn Weber and Maggie Meier, ThM.
The material is presented in an easy-to-follow style. Ice cream will be served at intermission.
ICOH is a group with representatives from 14 congregations in Española and Los Alamos County that share a desire to help neighbors most in need. In less than two years, the coalition has tackled more than a dozen projects in the Española Valley and raised more than $35,000 to facilitate them. Projects focus on:
• Helping those already unhoused to be safe and get on their feet
• Preventing at-risk people from becoming homeless
• Expanding access to treatment of addiction disorders and maximizing its success
Seen through a different lens, ICOH is a group of dozens of people acting as partners, catalysts and advocates. It focuses mostly on the Española Valley, where the needs are very high. People of all faiths, or none, are welcome to join the coalition/movement.
