ALBUQUERQUE — With a shot heard around the north, Aayilah Boies’s 3-pointer with 2.7 seconds Friday night left gave the Mesa Vista girls basketball team its first ever Class 2A state championship.

A year ago at the state spirit competition, the Española Valley cheer squad showed exactly what it can do when it’s on its game.

Capping what Mesa Vista girls coach Jesse Boies called, “a wild couple of days,” the victorious Trojans girls basketball team received a 30-mile escort into town on Sunday.

It was a heckuva long trip – 400 miles to be exact – that Dulce faced before even stepping on the court Saturday in the opening round of the boys Class 2A state basketball tournament.

Although the state basketball tournament is in full swing, spring sports are already going strong.
