Valentine's Day

All across the Española Valley, love is in the air.

Couples are seeking out the perfect Valentine’s Day gifts at local shops. Lovers are wooing one another at our most romantic restaurants. And longtime partners are preparing to make Feb. 14 the most romantic day of the year.

The Rio Grande SUN wants to make your Valentine’s Day unforgettable this year. That’s why we’re giving away multiple prizes as part of our inaugural Love In the Valley Contest.

We’re looking for real-life, local love stories of all kinds written in the first-person. Maybe you’ve got a fun story about a first date, or a tale of love at first sight, or an anecdote about the role the Valley played in meeting — or searching for — your plus-one.

There are three rules: Your story must be under 500 words, must take place in the Valley and must be true. The most compelling, moving, funny and romantic stories have the best shot at winning.

To enter, send your nonfiction story to SUN Managing Editor Jennifer Burnham at

The SUN will judge the submissions and award prizes to the first, second and third place finishers. Winners will be announced and their entries published in our Feb. 9 issue.
