Española Police Lt. Richard Trujillo has resigned from the department amid an internal investigation into his possible falsification of time sheets, officials said.
Trujillo quit after being placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the probe, according to Española Police Chief Mizel Garcia. He declined to provide additional information about Trujillo's resignation.
According to a source with knowledge of the case, Trujillo was accused of falsifying timecards and being paid by the city for surveillance hours he never worked.
Trujillo earned a salary of $69,742 from the city of Española, according to municipal records. He could not be reached for comment before press time.

This man exemplifies the unethical “Bad Cop” as we know them which plagues the Espanola PD and
Many other police departments in this country. He’s a bad actor and doesn’t represent the badge.
He has broken all ethics to the proper conduct of a police officer. I and others have dealt with him
Personally while on the job. So good riddance.
That being said, one thing I want to see in this town plagued by self-serving officials is higher pay
For all policing services and salaries, sheriff, state, and local police. More ethical officers that are qualified and will honor the badge, without personal interjection.
