Copper Wire Stolen From Business
SUN Staff Report
A machine was damaged and about $1,000 of copper wiring was stolen from EspaƱola Transit Mix on March 3.
EspaƱola City Police Officer Audrey Martinez was dispatched to the business after an employee called the EspaƱola/Rio Arriba E911 Center to report criminal damage.
When she arrived, she spoke with Josh Quintana, who led her to the north side of the property and showed her the damaged machine.
āI observed multiple wires cut on the machine, there was about 20ft of wire missing which josh (sic) advised me is all copper and valuing approximately $1000.00,ā Martinez wrote in her incident report.
Quintana told the officer the damage was done between 5 p.m. March 2 and 8 a.m. March 3 and that thereās been property damage before, so the entire property is fenced off. He thinks someone may have jumped the wall near Walmart to get onto the property, the report said.
āI located a sharp tool that was used to cut the wire near the machine,ā Martinez wrote. āI retrieved the item and submitted it into evidence.ā
She told Quintana that officers would do courtesy rounds in the area to try and deter more damage in the future, the report said.
